A professional driver was surrounded by unprofessional drivers and a accident occurred. I assume the untrained drivers were at fault.
How do you know that the limo driver didn't cut in front of the truck and then slammed on it's brakes taking away all the trucks braking distance?
I'm hoping for dash cam footage.

You guys are all just fanning the fire. Case in point: go to google news and search for "trucker kills" and "trucker killed." There is at least 1 entry a week for the last 6 months, and yet no charges issued in those other instances. A pseudo celebrity gets killed, and news organizations have a hey day; perhaps because ratings = ad $, and who can pass up on a sensational story especially when there's money to be made?! Facts: truck rear ended a vehicle, driver charged. Everything else: speculation and politics. I mean seriously, this thing is 24 pages long, and I bet it goes another 15 before it loses steam. It's not confirmed. But if true, pretty damning attitude. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertai...er-talks-aftermath-accident-article-1.1821642

Let's not stoop to insults here or we'll have to close this.
Anyhow, the problem I have is that in this industry drivers are usually already guilty until proven innocent in the eyes of the public, yet here some folks are demanding the crucifixion of one.
Granted, it looks bad for this driver and he's likely guilty as charged. If the ensuing investigation proves that to be true, then he broke it, he bought it, and he owns it.
But we need to remember where this happened, and that there were other parties involved. We shouldn't be so quick to exonerate them.ewill71, RedForeman, Joetro and 7 others Thank this. -
Well I have read every page of this fine thread but WOW .
From reading the 6-7 pages I did read I see that the public is not alone in their hatred of truck drivers!
After all these years of listening to drivers crying about it is always the drivers fault no matter what happens .
I see that drivers are just a bunch of hypocrites .
All of this talk about needing to stick together just seems to me that it just means when I need support not when my brother needs help .
I am ashamed to be a trucker when I read things like what I have read here today .
I for one will just wait for the whole story and then I probably just thank my lucky stars that I have not had this happen to me so far .chalupa, Extreme4x4, peterbilt_2005 and 4 others Thank this. -
Unfortunately some have already convicted the driver because of the "no excuse ever for rear ending another" mantra. Some (including myself) have posted valid arguments that this mantra is not 100% although it's close to it. That's the wonderful thing about American law and justice. It does allow for mitigating circumstances. Where the end result of guilt is mitigated by valid reasons occurring during the commission of the act. I get the sense from your posts that even if they find a meteor had come streaming down from the heavens and blasted through the hood of this guys truck you'd still be screaming "Off with his head!" Prove me wrong.54Trucker Thanks this. -
I've been driving 8 months and know when to pull over. I have done it before slept an hour and got back out there.
Also have been on elogs and paper all it is, or both of them are recording devices. They don't say lets go, get up, time to drive. You are in complete control as the driver. Not the computer. All it does is track your time like the paper log. Only difference much harder to cheat on elogs -
True there, before all said it done reporters will be making a circus out of this story.
