Maybe someone can answer a question... I live in Chicago with no convenient places to park for home time and no one to come pick me up. I am planning on storing my car about a half mile from the Richfield terminal on the other side of 41/45, but I would like to leave my car at the terminal itself during road training and at least until the winter weather sets in. Would this be allowed and do you think it would be safe?

Also, does anyone know if it might be possible to get someone at the terminal to drive me the half mile to my car and pick me up when I get back? I can walk it, but in the snow it would be a hazardous walk in the street. Hard to get an informed answer on this by calling so I thought I'd ask for thoughts on this here from anyone with experience in Richfield. I don't think it would be so easy to get a cab there, and for a one minute trip it seems ridiculous and potentially costly.

 

Yeah its allowed and should be plenty safe, Plenty of cars parked there for long periods of time, but why not leave it there instead of a mile down the road? As far as getting to it after training, you may find someone there who can run you down to it but its never a given, again would just leave it at the terminal unless its at a friends house or something.

 

Ya leave at terminal. .. richfield is def one of the better ones to leave ur personal vehicle

 

I am concerned with getting plowed in and/or battery dying in winter. It's 4-wheel drive, so I'd be alright unless the plows push 4' of snow around it. They might not take kindly to not being able to properly clear the lot. I'm not saying they'd be vindictive about it, but they can only get so close to the car and they certainly won't shovel it. Not to easy to dig out after 6 weeks or more of compacted snow at 2 degrees. It could get clipped, too. Guess I'm way over thinking it. I suppose if I get to the terminal often, I could maintain it.

How often do people get to their home terminal when not on home time? (Not planning on taking much time off.)

 

They have employee parking area... and they will also give ya ajump if battery dies... they keep the terminals plowed pretty well. These trucks are as low to the ground as a car

 

Sweet. Much better for me to leave it there. I'll see how it goes.

 

Get a solar battery charger if you're worried about your battery going dead. $20 online or at Northern Tool , etc. they work great.

 

Back with another question... I have a high end quad core laptop with 17" monitor and I need to keep it powered and connected to the internet. I am planning on signing up with a Verizon and getting a Jetpack 4G LTE, but what do I need to charge and power the laptop? Do I need something for a cigarette type plug? I have a feeling I will need an inverter which I can get when I get my own truck, but is it likely that my trainer will have what I need? The wall adapter for my laptop has an output of 19V 4.74A. Does an inverter allow you to plug in with a regular plug? No experience.

I would wait until I get on the road for this, but I am going to have some time sensitive matters to attend to and need to stay in contact and be able to access some accounts during training. Want to have everything in order ahead of time so I can concentrate on the job and not this. Any advice appreciated.

 

Depending on what truck your trainer has 700 need an inverter 680 have them built in with wall plugs.any inverter will take a standard plug and some have a USB plug also. So u will have to ask your trainer.

 

An inverter would be enough, even the smallest ones will charge a computer, but I wouldn't count on having the space on a trainer's truck, nor would you be guaranteed the time to take care of time sensitive issues on a laptop. Time on a trainer's truck needs to be concentrated on training.
