As for brokers doing me a favor "keeping me rolling" in winter. Thanks but that's not how I operate.
I try to get far enough ahead of the ball, so I can sort of coast through winter. I never expect to flatbed much in winter. And like last winter, when plastic airlines start cracking and fuel mileage drops due to the cold. I just don't see any payoff for all that crap with the low rates.
But this spring and summer is looking pretty good, so maybe I will park from mid November to mid February and go fishing all winter. You go getters can have all that cheap winter freight. I'd rather bust ### on this warm weather freight.Shade_Tree Thanks this. -
To the OP:
I have been using the same formula to calculate my rates for the past 3 or so years. One broker in particular has been running me quite hard as the market rates have gone up. I know he is using me because I am the cheapest reliable option but at some point I owe it to myself to increase my rates (change my formula to build in more profit). This is spot market freight and I suspect I am at least 25% below the market but it can go the other way in a heartbeat.
So I ask you, do you really think the broker and shipper will remember me and continue to pay me 25% above market rate when things go the other way?
You and the shipper need to lock in some capacity with guaranteed contracts or stop whining.gokiddogo Thanks this. -

danny if your talking about me, it was one pick one drop no wait. and if there was wait there was $50 a hour detention pay. what i was angry about was the fact the guy renigged on me. I can get a truck and trust me i do at over $4 a mile. I make good money off these loads. and I will countinue to make money off these loads. Has nothing to do with me finding trucks, had everything to do with the liar backstaber carrier that i hired. read the post you would have figured that out
