i'm using my note2 as my truck gps. it sits in the dash. where i can run the camera app in the background.
rather the buying an actual dash cam. i'm looking for an app that wll record in 1 hour loops. recording over the file it previously recorded. which is set to store on memory card.
resolution is small enough that i could record a pretty lengthy high quality vid. but don't really need a full days driving in one session. thus, the 1 hour recording loop.
any suggestions. google has some recommendations, but nothing explaining what i'm looking for and i don't want to try every suggestion listed.

lovesthedrive Thanks this.

1 hour vid with resolution i have set isn't that big. easily copy and pasted to laptop. simply plug phone in.
i'm thinking of the 1 hour segments as i'm driving down the road. things are getting dangerous out here. 1 0r 2 minutes won't cut the mustard.
will try that app. see what happens. -
One minute of HD 1080P 30 FPS with a 10K bit rate can easily exceed 6 Mb. You want the resolution clear enough to read a license plate if needed. If you plan to also use your Note 2 for other functions (phone/texting/ext) while the camera is rolling, you would be better off having shorter video clips in case the phone freezes when the processor is maxed out. The Daily Roads Voyager functions even better on a Note 3 with a bigger processor and larger RAM.
Dieselboss Thanks this. -
the phone is unactivated. it's just a tablet now. so to speak.
the app itself. doesn't appear to erase previous clips. i have it check for 3 files. but it just accumulates.
it also can't seem to use my memory card for whatever reason. but the activated phone does use the memory. same model phone. -
ALLRIGHTY, got it all set up.
but there's one problem nice app. but when viewed on laptop. it don't display the gps or any of that information. nor does it play the sound.
it all works on the phone, when viewing the file using the file app that comes with the dailyroads app.
is theere a trick to getting all the info so that the laptop also sees the infor.
i've got the speed, date, time, elevation, front and back sound. it's all there on the phone using the file app. but all i get on the laptop. is the video.
speed and time are a defenite must have for those cops that like to accuse of you going faster then you really are or capable of going.. sound would be a bonus.
and how about a video editor???? i'm using 15 minute segments. the 1 or 2 minute thing is a good idea but that's a lot of files to sort through. since it's hard to make out which vid was recorded at what time. -
I use Autoguard Blackbox on my Galaxy Tab 3 and it works great. Been using it now since March and cant say enough about it. I have the program you are using but it doesnt respond as good as blackbox does. And it doesnt require me to purchase overlay credits. All I need is the program that will interpret the GPS data for the video and it does well.

Just a quick update, VLC player is a media player that I use on my desktop at home, and it works great on laptops as well. When you move over a video that has a subtitle file like a GPS data file it will automatically search for that file and load the file when the video starts. its relatively small program and free. get it at the link below.

i've got the autogaurd, but it's not impressing me that much. it don't display gps and other info either. and the storage is HUGE. we're talking a 20 meg file that dailyroads only uses 3 megs. it don't have quite the compression settings that daily road has. i'll have to seriously test it out next week.
should you need evidence. you want as good a quality as possible. while makeing the file as small as possible. cops don't want to wait 30 minutes while you try to give them a 10 minute video. or what ever the scenario may be.
it be real nice to have information seen on the screen though. and not just with the phone. i think speed, time, and date, is very important information to be had with the video. besides the sound.
another thing that needs to be implemented. is some type of zoom. you get a darn good view of the surroundings. unfortunately, you can't make out the license plates. even when kissing their butt at a stop light.
i had a instance in phoenix. where a ADOT kid was coming up the freeway ramp. in a ADOT truck. i couldn't get over because of cars. so he did his roadrage thing. snuck in behind me. come over to the left lane and flew in front of me. come back over. slammed his brakes and gave me the finger. then took off. there's no zoom feature to get the plate or truck number.
