After my man told his fleet manager for a straight 48 hours to find him a relay (due to promised home time and a huge family commitment) and ultimately being told no at the last minute, my man came unglued and cussed out the 3rd person that he was transferred to talk to. He thinks that he is probably going to get fired this week.... God I hope not! I hope they chalk it up to him being upset and stressed and will give him another shot. We cannot afford for him to be without a job!!!!

If trucking companies fired every driver who got pissed about not getting promised hometime and flew off the handle, there would be no trucks rolling. As long as he is considered a "good hand" and is an asset to the company, as opposed to a liability, he should be fine. But this is where you have to be honest with yourself and remember there will be days like this ... before you develop a reputation as being difficult and not often a good producer

STexan: He has been in the industry for about 3 months and has unfortunately had some issues with 1 ticket due to his trucks GPS telling him to go down a weight restricted road and a small accident. (no police or anything)

The sign was not posted at the corner of the street, it was posted down the way... and by the time he saw it and was going to turn around there was a cop.

Does he also have a Motor Carrier Atlas? As a new driver, you must not rely on a GPS unit if you do not know the roads traveled. Look up the roads in the atlas to find restricted roads/low clearances. A few more of these type situations and getting a job with any legitimate motor carrier will be a problem.

It's unlikely he'll get fired. Though I do recommend he control his temper when talking to company folk. While Respect does not always reutrn Respect; Disrespect always will return Disrespect. And swearing can be seen as and is disrespectful.

That being said, it is my opinion that MY home time is not a priority to dispatch. Knowing that, if I NEED to be home on a certain date, I will always ask to be home at least one day before I actually need to be, sometimes two. Because, Murphy's Law says, "The more important it is to be home on a specific date, the more obstacles will impede your way."

    TomOfTx Thanks this.

Your husband is another one that relies on his GPS huh.He needs to learn how to read signs and not depend on the gps.But anyway can you tell us what exactly he said to the 3rd person,pg rated?Drivers get mad all the time in this industry.I can't even begin to tell you how many times ive yelled at someone within the company.I don't care if its the CEO,they are going to hear me out.I was promised id get home on Thanksgiving one yr.I made a deal with my dispatcher,I took hometime a couple weeks before thanksgiving because I was out over a month and it was a bad month just wanted to get away from the trk..So anyway I took only 2 days off instead of my usual 4 so I could get home on thanksgiving. At the last minute 100 miles from home while sitting in the dock I get a preload going to Louisana. Then my dispatcher says he cant get me home because I took it 2 weeks ago.Don't think I was'nt pissed,I called him everything but a white boy.Never got fired for that.

I did end up getting home for Thanksgiving. He told me once im loaded head towards Sioux City and i'll find a swap.Met a driver at the trkstop in Sioux City. There is no guarantees getting home on the day you requested and im fully aware of that and never got angry because I didn't get home on the day I asked for.Things change all the time in this industry. But one thing companies lack is communication to the drivers. If they can't get the drivers home fine but you don't tell them at the last minute and especially only a 100 miles from home.I was mad because I almost didn't get home on Thanksgiving, because my dispatcher had no intentions telling me till after I asked him a few hundred times.

PattyJ: I think he was just using the F bomb and telling them that their plan looked good on paper but in the real world their plan was not going to work. They were trying to tell him that it would only take him a certain amount of hours to make the run and get him home... of course they were not including if the possibility of the shipper being delayed, his 1/2 hour break and the amount of drive time still on his clock.
