I am still in CDL school, recently retired from a twenty year career. Now in my past career I've heard it all. I want to throttle some of these "Know it all kids" who amongst other things have no respect in how they talk about how they will do what they want when they "Get their truck". What burns me the most is their blatant disregard for learning, sleeping in class and screwing off at best while others are trying to learn. Ive been in school for two weeks now and have heard amongst other rants how they hate cops and they couldn't give a #### less about following the rules when they get on the road. I am biding my time, smiling at the little jack #####, whom most haven't held a job for more than a year at my best guess. Sooner or later I will just have to break my silence and tell them what I think.

I pray that upon starting with a company I don't have a trainer like that. I receive a pretty decent pension, however, I too want to drive a truck as a career and to travel.

Oh by the way, remember when I said in my last career I had heard it all? Well my 20 yr. career was in Law Enforcement, of which 5+ years was a Field Training Officer as well as many years as an instructor in various other facets of Law Enforcement. I do not subscribe to the "I'm better than most, cause I was a cop" theory, but instead I guess it's an "Eye opener" to the rest of the world around me.

As a side note I have been told by a friend of mine who is OTR not to tell anyone I was a cop as truckers HATE them. This sucks if true because I am very proud of my previous career.

Those kids won't last long out on the road. They'll be running back to mommy after a few weeks of living the lifestyle. I can't speak for the rest of the truckers but I have no problem with LEO's. Some might be ######## but I've met a lot of ######## in many other careers. Even met a lot of ####### truckers! Best of luck to you!

Do truckers hate cops? No. But we have lost a lot of respect for them over the past few decades.

At one time we held cops in high regard because they held us in high regard. Now a lot of cops see us as the enemy. They are trying to catch us in any little violation because we are a revenue source for many different government agencies. We are overtaxed and over regulated. So yes, there are some who because of our experiences would rather never cross paths with a cop.

Myself, I am a Felon. From reading that and from my above posting, I am betting you have made a snap judgement about me. And I know that judgement is wrong.

Because you have stopped being a cop and are now trying to reform by being a Tax payer, I am willing to give you a chance. But you should know that of all cops out there, we hold Andy and Barney to be the highest example of excellent. They tried to serve the people. We wish there were more like them who you could turn to without worrying about them treating you like you are the enemy.

    Welcome to trucking.

No snap judgements at all Wooly Rhino. I have probably made more mistakes in life than many that were convicted of a felony ! I am glad I was a cop but more so, I am also a Navy veteran and an American! Believe it or not, your decision, but I too have lost ALOT of respect for the Law Enforcement community. Maybe we will cross paths out there my friend. I would love to meet you and shake your hand. I DO NOT want to be known as a retired cop, but as a driver now.

Your friend told you wrong, at least as far as IM concerned. I don't hate anyone. Do I hate some of the laws against truckers? Yes but since Im retired, I will live with it. I probably will continue to try to make it better for truckers any way I can but no I don't hate LEOs, they have a job to do just like I did.

Welcome Aboard and thanks for your service to the Public. Good Luck to you.

If it makes you feel any better, this industry has a wash-out rate of 90%+, so odds are real good that those idiots will be back living in their mothers' basements by this time next year. They are obviously delusional about the realities of OTR trucking. The days of Smokey and the Bandit outlaw trucking are long gone. This is a hard and thankless job that requires a strong work ethic and self-motivation. I doubt they'll be able to make the grade.

Ive personally met many truckers who are ex cops. I was just talking with a driver at my company the other day who is an ex Florida State Trooper. I wasn't aware that all truckers hate cops. And in all the interactions that I've had with law enforcement (which are admittedly few), they've been nothing but professional and courteous. I even got a level 1 inspection in Texas one time, and the State Trooper doing it was a funny dude. He had me cracking up telling stories about some of the ####### truckers he's had run-ins with.

good luck and don't let the idiots get to you.

Go with a reputable company and you won't have to worry about bad trainers.
