I'll say this. I worked for Schneider where they didn't allow any inverter bigger than I think 150 watts. Now I work for a company that installed a 2,000 watt inverter for me for free, so I now have a microwave and soon a fridge. Having seen both sides, I would never go back to a company that didn't allow them. Having your shop install one, even for a fee is a small thing that adds up to big savings in driver comfort. The no inverter policy is one of those rules issued by people in an office who have no idea what life is like on the road.

But I might add that I have met quite a few Crete drivers and they are for the most part a happy and professional bunch. If i was ever going to drive van again, not very likely, I would look hard at them, if they allowed inverters, lol. But for a first company they are hard to beat, just my two cents.

Dont worry about inverters.. get your 1 year experience in then find a job with a good company and get away from the big companies.

Don't worry about invertors ? Your going to be living in that truck for several weeks at a time. If your going to sacrifice so many things we take for granted then enjoy some creature comforts.

While we're at it.....let's have these companies take out the sleeper, a/c, bunk heater, apu, never be able to idle, etc.

Thanks. I've done plenty of research myself, and out of a lot of the bigger OTR companies, Crete / Shaffer seem to be on top, for me at least. I also live very close to one of their terminals. THe inverter policy is a major bummer, but I suppose I'll make do w/ the limitations.

I appreciate what you're saying. However, I"m not so opposed to the bigger companies. At least I should say that I've met several drivers (including some veteran drivers) that are very successful and happy w/ the bigger companies. I'll find out for myself what fits me best, but I'm always keeping my ears open to listen to other drivers' views.

I also appreciate what you're saying! I plan on going national OTR w/ Crete. I'd love to have a TV and my gaming console, but I'll settle for a small cooler (so I don't have to use an ice chest). To the very least, I'd like to be able to brew my own coffee. I plan on bringing a lot of non perishable foods w/ me and staying out of the truck stops and diners, save for a treat now and then. If I can't have the luxuries like a TV and video games, at least I'll bring my acoustic guitar, some books, and my laptop ;)

    Zero experience = $500
    4-11 months experience = $600

I'm on Shaffer and a reefer isn't a big deal, is it worth an extra penny... no.
Supposedly longer runs with reefer than on the Crete side.

May I ask why you chose Shaffer over Crete?
