Broker had a load that was $3,800 COD. Customer changed their mind and wanted to pay by credit card. The broker says he can only do $3650 because of the cost (3.75%) to process the transaction. I told him to charge the customer and he cries me a river as to why he can't. OK, I get he has to pay a percentage on the whole amount, not just on what he gets paid, however the original quote to customer was for COD. Since it is no longer COD the rate needs to change. My bf wanted to take the load anyway. I wanted to refuse it based on principle. We ended up taking the load. What would you have done?
How to deal with broker's credit card fee?

Pass the charges off or renegotiate the load total; this is a bs tactic to get you to subsume those costs. If you end up paying this time, then never work with them again...

boyfriend made a bad move, its common to tell people they have to pay the credit card fee as an added fee. what happens when the customer disptues the charges and no one gets paid??

Always do what your boyfriend tells you to do, or if he isn't available, always do what I tell you he wants you to do.
You have a contract with the broker. The broker has a contract with the shipper. The Shipper has a contract with the receiver. If the broker has to change his deal with you then you renegotiate. Someone has to eat the cost of the bank making money. If you decide to do so once, prepare to do so again. Normally, the person who is doing the paying eats it.Milkman719 Thanks this. -
I would have refused the load. I get all wound up when rates change after the fact. Rate changes=problem load. They chose to pay with a credit card I wouldn't eat the charge for a favor for them, they will expect that every time.

Yeah, I knew it was a bad idea, but he never listens to me. He was also getting ripped off on truck repairs and I was the first to notice it. The scam worked liked this: His previous truck was owned by a company he contracted with, and he was paying it off slowly. When it needed repairs they took it into their mechanic for him. The company then added their own charge on top of the mechanic fee for the repair, but passed it off like it was all the mechanic fee. I told him this was going on but it wasn't until another trucker told him that he opened his eyes.

Sounds like the broker is trying to pull a fast one on you and pocket that 3.75% for himself. Offer to have the customer pay you with a credit card through PayPal, and you pay the broker his cut.
