I have my 12 year old daughter on the truck with me right now.
It was funny.
The other day I had called my DM and he asked me which daughter I had on the truck.
I told him, Leann, my middle daughter and the one I got permission for.
He asked how old she was, because they got a call complaining that I had an 11 year old on the truck.
I said she is 12, my youngest is 10.
My 10 year old is actually 1 inch taller than her big sister. LOL.
Leann is just about(almost) 4'10" at 12 years, so a little short.
12 years is the youngest that can get permission to ride, and they require a birth certificate before they will authorize it.
And I am not so stupid as to get permission for the 12 year old and then swap out the 10 year old in her place. -
Different terminal have different rules

And they wonder why there's a shortage of good drivers.
realsupatrucka Thanks this. -
ALL of you ignored the all important guidance on the rule. In summary, you need to have written permission from your company to have a passenger, but you DO NOT need to have that written permission available, nor do you need to present written permission if asked.
When I was OTR, I had three Level I inspections when I had a passenger in the truck. In Ohio, she was asleep in the bunk and the inspector never asked to look. In Virginia and Montana, the inspector never asked about her.

The point here is that the officer can write a ticket for not having the document. You then have to prove that it was in place. Why not have the copy in your possession and save hassle and fighting a ticket cost?
Too easy I guess. -
Show me the regulation that states you can be ticketed for not having the document. Or show me the regulation that states that the document must be carried on the truck and available for inspection. There isn't one.
The guidance specifically says that the document must be maintained at the company's principal place of business, but also says that it is at the company's discretion whether a copy must be carried with the driver. That tells me that if the company doesn't require a copy to be carried with the driver, then it is legal for the driver not to have one. -
If they try to contact the dispatch to confirm that the document is there and no one is there to confirm, a ticket is then issued. Not every company has competent staff available to verify such documents. Then a ticket is issued for the code section as stated. Our company has a policy in place that the document is to be in possession.
Again, why be so stubborn to not have a copy to protect yourself from a stupid action.
You might want to learn that things in the guidance area are not actual law and subject to their interpretations. -
Can you show me an example of where someone has been cited under 392.60 when they didn't have the paperwork in their possesion?
