I didn't quite get there, only went to New Glarus today, just a shag run. I went through there twice, and 2 trips from the west suburbs to ist Evanston and then to Chicago from Streamwood and Carol Stream respectively, way too much time in the city.
And then I get to Chicago, and they back me in and fiddle with it for 4 hours because they didn't have a place for it. I needed the split break to get things done in a timely manner.
Oh, BTW, the rescued load got delivered by myself and another, despite the guy who needed rescuing not listening and making it easier for everyone.
That construction won't be done anytime soon, the way it looks, because they will have to do the westbound lanes to raise them, too.
It will be nicer when they get it done. -
I honestly believe it is a sales pitch, listening to all of the proponents, and the pitch like many sales pitches, is largely fallacious. This one is complicated by emotion from many players, but the worst one of those,IMO, is the greed on the part of the purveyors of the devices, and also on the part of the officials whose districts will benefit from extracting some more money from the industry.
Nothing like taking money claiming it will save money.
Fallacies aren't going to make things better, but if patting yourself on the back makes you feel better, I guess that is something. -
this is not to say texting is safe, people wont die, or any of the other clear ramifications, but no matter how many laws they make, people are going to function as people...........because we are PEOPLE, not robots
all day today i am looking at 4wheelers and almost ALL OF THEM, have either a phone in their lap or in their hands
even truck drivers, with $2500 penalties, are still talking on their phones, in their hands
and lets discuss speeding, following too close, unsafe lane change, even drunk driving............all still happening, no matter how many laws and penalties they make
this is not to do away with laws, but it is to realize that you cant legislate people's behavior
but in the trucking industry, politicians want to FIX STUPID with more laws and gadgets...........it wont work, which is why almost every elogger tells you how he has to WORK THE ELOG whether thru driving slow, or driving illegal from a shipper at night to a shoulder on the road, and the other clearly illegal things they do, merely because their DRIVE TIME is monitored to explicit detail, but the other 50 things they do (on duty not driving) are not counted...........ie, ILLEGAL
so the pawn this bad behavior of truck drivers, or the fact they cant tell their dispatcher NO, or they are making 15cpm so they need to drive 24/7 just to make ends meet should not be corrected by telling everyone to get a rat in their truck
i drive less than 2000m/week, i am sure elogs wont kill me
but its not about me, its about an unfair mechanism that is being introduced and sadly too many truck drivers are too chicken-###### to stand up for themselves
thats mainly my issue, drivers are being run over and they are laying down accepting it -
Nevermind I re read your post -
The plain and simple truth is, there are a LOT of people that drive commercially that probably shouldn't be, something needs to be done, and it sounds like your solution for EVERYBODY is to just be on the honor system and make it a free for all, I just can't buy that, sorry, there are just too many out there that lack that type of common sense.[/QUOTE]
The problem is the over-generalization of the situation... are there incompetent/disrespectful/idiots out there driving truck?? DUH! MORE gummit interference won't resolve THAT problem.. Good training and mentoring will certainly help, but NOTHING, short of an Armed U.S. Marshal in the truck will EVER make EVERY driver act right... that's just not reality. The original EOBR mandate was designed to address M/C's that had a demonstrated poor compliance history... under THOSE auspices, I can actually support the notion... however, forcing EVERYONE, regardless of their OUTSTANDING compliance record, to bear the expense and burden and possible corruption of the ECM/Electrical systems on their trucks is something I just can't get behind. Punishing EVERYONE for the acts of a few is irresponsible. That's like saying we should imprison ALL black males because SOME of them deal drugs... that's just STUPID! The ultimate problem with this mandate, like many others imposed by Queen Anne, is that it punishes the many because of the few... further, it is my sincere belief that ELD's are contributors to more accidents and unsafe driving than they prevent. When people who have NEVER held a CDL get a seat at the table when rules to "make truckers 'safer' (read: 'suffer')" whilst completely ignoring the voices of those of us out here who KNOW what is safe vs unsafe, we have a SERIOUS problem with the administration! Anne will clear her calendar to hear the sob story of ANY relative of a truck crash victim... try getting a response from her as a trucker or motor carrier... Rots 'o Ruck! Do you think it would be a good idea if the Walmart checkout girl, who just had a cavity filled, was allowed to make new rules for Oral Surgeons since she's such an expert now???? Get REAL!EZX1100 Thanks this. -

No restrooms no place to eat shower just go pick that load up is the demands of corporate America and we are their slaves only difference is that we are paid with paper instead of chicken scraps and free room and board and even then some trucking companies have placed a price tag on the little bunk we are forced to sleep in.

Just wait she'll parade the next of kin in the Wal-Mart accident around like a peacock!
