Well Im from Baton Rouge , Louisiana & I just finished school & picking a company is really frustrating because of all the stories I hear about how drivers hated working for a company, etc.... I've been leaning more towards Roehl but I hardly ever see them in this area (Baton Rouge,LA) is that a bad thing? plus they only offer OTR positions here (which isn't a problem) but looking a company like Schneider, they have more options to choose from in this area, I just don't like their IDLE POLICY & sleeping in a hot truck is not on my list of things to do., but its seems like Schneider would be a better company to choose if I wanted to move within the company as far as switching to a regional or dedicated accounts. Which is something I would like to do eventually! So with that being said, would Schneider be a better choice as far as options to choose from & just deal with their policies that many ppl hate ? or should I choose Roehl and enjoy the comfort of the epu/apu & stick with just doing OTR until I get experience a find a local or better company.....?
I know somebody out there had these same worries/questions when they first started out too.... WHAT SHOULD I DO?

I'd go with the APU's probably.
Have you looked at other companies? You're in a good location with I-10 running coast-coast.
Apply with these if they look good and ignore any "experience required" .

I'd agree with Chinatown and look at some other options.
SNI's idle policy is no idling between 20 and 70 degrees. If it's anywhere close to 70 the truck will idle. I have never and will never sit and swelter for Chris Lofgrin's bottom line. I ran the truck last night, I'm running it right now, and if I don't make it home tomorrow, I'll run it then. The only downside to the ambient temperature sensors is electrical power during winter.
As for Roehl - in the last two years they've hired a LOT of former Schneider executives. I know one SNI medium wig that joked Roehl would be a perfect company for SNI to buy because their office staff already knows SNI policy and procedure.mickimause and Jaystew Thank this. -
Idling in the summer is not an issue with schneider. The only time you might get hot is if the a/c goes out, and you just get it fixed. The problem is more in the winter when you have a hard time idling when it's cold. Batteries don't hold a charge as well in cold weather so if you need to use any electronics other than the bunk heater your batteries probably will run out. But in the summer idling isn't an issue at all.
As far a parking goes you'd probably be based out of reserve, la. We also used to use the tank wash on airline hwy in Baton Rouge but not sure if van drivers can still park there.
One thing though, that would be a good area to run bulk for schneider if you wanted to go that route. Reserve is one of the bigger bulk terminals.Jaystew Thanks this. -
