I am a sister of a trucker and know how hard truckers work. I am amazed of how Skyview Farms (MO) treated him. Please read:
My brother wanted to try to be an owner/operator so he gave this company $1500 up front and agreed to pay a weekly payment for truck and trailer. He also had to pay fuel, insurance and all the other things. I know, I know he agreed to this. Keep reading....
Each week he would recieve a statement with all of these charges with and without explaination! One time there was one charge of over $2800??? Every week he went further and further in to the negatve, and if he would have stayed 1 more week he would have owed $5000. After 6 weeks he dropped the truck back off at the company and went home.
While he was working for the company he never turned down a route, never was late, and always kept information updated (you truckers know what appens if you don't).
A week after quitting he receives a letter stating how they were going to report to the DAC about his paperwork not being up to date, his unprofessionalism, and lack of willingness to work. ~Mind you, for 6 weeks he went where they told him and NEVER recieved any paycheck.~
I do not know how you truckers do it, there are so many rip off companies out there!
What a company ###!

If your brothers name is Jimi, I'm pissed also..........although I thought he passed away long ago !

If he was getting statements he couldn't figure out, and unexplained charges on them, he should have stopped right there, and got it straightened out. Not keep going, and hope things get better. 'cause they seldom do!

Those are some high payments or something.
I was just screwing around, since I cannot stand seeing this happen, and have seen it allot.
Plus the lease "deals" companys offer are a joke also.
But to put things into perspective. I just ran a fast search.
I could get a 2007 International 9400i Eagle, with low miles for 62,000. This is without trying to talk them down, it is asking price and I am sure they would take less.
Get a fairly low interest loan for 2 years, this way I will have it paid off in the time I can take depreciation on my taxes.
If I assume I will have to pay 10,000 in interest, which is actually a fairly high rate for a 2 year loan. I would need to make payments of 750 a week to pay it off in 2 years.
There are people leasing trucks making payments of 800+ a week on a new truck for 4 years, that will not own the truck at the end of that time. Also they are leasing, so cannot take depreciation, though they can deduct all payments on taxes.
If I changed that to a 3 year loan on a newer fancy truck it would be about the same payment.
Did the same thing on a 387 Pete.
2007 with under 180k miles, which is less than the international.
Asking price is 70,000. So go with 10k again for interest on a 2 year loan.
That is 833.33 a week. For 2 years. About what you will pay for 4 years to a lease company and the truck is yours.slowpoke96 and Baack Thank this. -
B, they did pretty much the same thing to my fiance. They, as it turned out, were being sincere about sullying his DAC. They have even taken it a step farther and had one of their reps call respective employers which, 3 years after leaving skyview, had the impact of costing him work.

with all the information out there about how bad a Lease option/purchase is, you would think people would stay away from it. Its not what I would consider an Owner/Op. Since being on this forum, ive seen more people fail as a Lease Op then I have come in here and post that they are quiting. Makes me wander if those Lease/Ops even know what it means to do homework.

This thread is 5 years old. The original poster, bhendrix, has only one post on this entire forum, and that is the one at the top of this thread, posted in 2009.
I doubt very seriously if she responds.CondoCruiser and Hitman Thank this. -
