ImpurestCrowd once you get the exp you should be able to stop no matter how short the lite stays green then back to red.I've never had any problems stopping at lites.Yes yellow means caution but it doesn't mean to proceed thru a yellow lite when you have time to stop once it changes yellow.

Section 4D.10 Yellow Change and Red Clearance Intervals

    Standard:
A yellow signal indication shall be displayed following every CIRCULAR GREEN or GREEN ARROW signal indication.

The exclusive function of the yellow change interval shall be to warn traffic of an impending change in the right-of-way assignment.

The duration of a yellow change interval shall be predetermined.

    Guidance:
A yellow change interval should have a duration of approximately 3 to 6 seconds. The longer intervals should be reserved for use on approaches with higher speeds.

As far as I can tell truckers don't usually get tickets on those things unless they try to go through way too late. What truckers get hit with is speeding tickets. Those red light cameras check your speed as you go through.

That's right. Rear end accidents have gone up because of red light cameras. Since the timing of yellow is unclear many are now treating yellow as if it were red. They were not installed for safety.

Never got a fine from any state except TN which is my base plate. I know I got that 1st second of red a few times in other states and saw the lights pop off. It's just a civil fine. Toss it in trash. I think half the folks do that anyway. A $50 fine is too small for the municipality to file a claim in General Sessions Court.

Now if you don't own the truck you're driving, well then, the owner is gonna get the fine so company drivers need to worry if bossman is a prick.

Any chance Chicago will get rid of these POS things? They seem to be everywhere around here. They even issue tickets for traffic turning right if you don't stop for at least three seconds. That's right, just coming to a complete stop isn't enough. You have to wait 3 seconds.

I have personally received 0 red light camera tickets, and have some techniques to avoiding them. But if they say these cameras are for safety, and they are actually proven to cause more accidents than preventing I think they should be outlawed. The next thing is speed cameras, then cellphone cameras, then seatbelt cameras, then cameras to ticket you while smoking or eating, etc. This is a slippery slope, and there should be a federal mandate to adjust yellow lights properly, or the camera doesn't come on for 1-3 seconds after the light turns red. Another good solution would be some sort of signal telling you how long you have for the light to turn red. I find people speed through the intersections with red light cameras to avoid it(while others are stopping short to avoid a ticket), which is dangerous, because that is the place where accidents occur the most. Their have also been studies that compare yellow light times with same speed limits that differ about 1+ seconds between a non red light camera, and a red light camera. If it has been proven red light cameras cause more accidents, then its about making money for these red light camera companies and police departments. NYPD made about 50 million dollars with 150 cameras a few years ago do the math(which they used to conduct undercover police programs to further violate innocent citizens rights).

Because people as soon as they see the yellow light they slam on their brakes and the person in back of them doesn't always stop in time. Not to mention they impede the flow of traffic because many drivers are afraid to turn right on red due to them. I wouldn't be against them if every intersection that has one also had a count down timer by the traffic signal so you know exactly how much time you have left on green. But no, it is obvious these scumbags who put them up only want to steal your hard earned money. Their concern is not increasing safety.
