My avg fuel cost has been $3.60/gal.
So figure fuel cost difference in cpm terms and multiply by avg miles ran annually.
I get:
$3.60/5=0.72 and $3.60/6.5=0.55 (Actually, I've been averaging 60mph cruise speed lately and my fuel cost has been running $0.60/mi. This proves true with the 0.1mpg fuel burn avg per 1 mph. So, $3.60/6.0=0.60).
Now, driving 100000 miles per year. 100000*(.72-.55)=$17000
As far as wear and tear saved. It's hard to estimate with one truck by itself. I would guess it saves around 20% in maibtenance costs based on how much less the truck is working. Just a guestimant there. But the fuel savings is worth it.
The reason I don't avg 55mph but rather 60mph is simply because sometimes I need to hurry and meet an appt and also because my rpms are too low for top gear at 55. I use the scangauge to see my rpms in digital readout. Keeping it over 1200rpm which is bottom of peak torque band. If hilly and heavy I run 53 at 1350rpms in 9low and when I hit the crest of the hill shift to 9high and let her coast. -
So 0.72 times 175k is 126000.
0.55 times 137500 is 75625.
That 75k in extra revenue is now down to less than 25. And that's with an actual average speed 15 higher for exactly 11 hours each day. -
Tracking these numbers on the fuelgauges website makes things easy and best of all accurate. It's not like most guys who when you ask what they avg. " Well, let me think here...I been gettin round 7, maye 9 mpg."
Have you ever bumped into that guy? Let me tell you a secret. That guy does NOT know his numbers. He is not a business or logic minded individual. And, he probably takes home less money than a Werner company driver every year as a result of his ineptness! Those were the kids that sat in the back of the classroom and slept or played and always copied their homework off of the smart kids while riding the bus to school. Inept!RAGIN CAJUN Thanks this. -
