I don't see why I have to be anything other than a motorist appalled at the relatively recent epidemic of red light running.

But I like them because, 1. They should shut up irresponsible motorists always complaining cops are fallible and/or liars. 2. They should shut up irresponsible motorists always complaining about "selective enforcement"; "everyone does it but I got ticketed!" 3. It's not a case relying upon "eyewitness testimony", the images or video is hard and reliable evidence. 4. I have loved ones I don't want killed or injured because some nimrod couldn't be bothered to drive their missile, and if they are I want the hard evidence.

Not a very flattering picture of those who run red lights, is it?

"Correlation does not imply causation", but that seems if not an invalid comparison a better one would be before and after crash statistics of 1 intersection.... if a RLC could cause a crash, but they can't.

The signal changes at the exact same instant for all approaching motorists. RLC opponents/rear-end crashers might as well try to blame the signal for changing.

So... shall we conclude school being in session causes more frequent crashes?

So... a stealth argument that seems to imply that since RLC cannot prevent crashes, they should not be used? If we consider what method could prevent red light running broadside crashes I think we're limited to a LARGE steel plate that springs from the roadway when the signal turns red.

It seems to me more stringent methods to discourage red light running are in order. Broadside crashes tend to inflict devastating if not fatal injuries, I doubt any community or police force would tolerate 36 per year at a single intersection.

I got a ticket for a camera in Brooklyn. I didn't even know it was there. It was 6 am. And the lights are so fast. I was on linden blvd. it was $75. My company could care less. But recently NYC is being investigated for short timing the yellow lights. All this is is a money grab.

gpsman, you do realize in most states, unless the photo radar or red light camera ticket is handed to you by a cop, they do not have to be paid.

and in most states, they can safely be ignored. As I stated before, when we get a photo radar ticket, my boss mails it back to the City with a letter stating she has no idea who was driving the truck, the picture is not legible, and with 13 trucks and 15 drivers, it's not possible to determine who was driving. Red light camera tickets, unless handed to you directly by the officer, in most states can safely be ignored. As a friend of mine dealt with it, he got about a dozen red light tickets mailed to him. Tossed them in the trash, few weeks later a cop showed and handed him a summons to appear for the tickets, along with a copy of each violation. When he went before the judge, he handed him his elogs printout and said, impossible to be me, at the hour the citation was issued, I was already on the road in each incident. Turns out, the camera which did show the date and time, well, it didn't update for daylight savings. Judge dismissed all the tickets.

No, in Colorado, unless the ticket is served to you by a cop or officer of the court, you don't have to pay it.

and as has been pointed out, at the intersection, the rear end accident rate increased after the cameras were installed, causation, as others have pointed out, people anticipate the camera and stop, others expect them to run it and speed up.

inexp. drivers, doing the above more frequently

The 6 way intersection I go through every day, multiple time per day has a red light camera, for a year prior a cop would sit and monitor the intersection, then go after the red light runners, I can tell you from driving through this intersection 5 days per week, often multiple times per day, fewer people ran the light when the cop was sitting there, than currently do with the RLC. Even now, with the RLC in place, the cops will still sit and monitor the intersection once or twice a week. You can always tell when the cop is there, every one comes to a stop.

hot and sexy wife who likes to lay out topless, then parade around in skimpy bikinis most of the summer, as well as ride on the back of his Harley in leather short shorts and heels. Not to mention the very nice 30' Baja boat he stores in my Dad's backyard that we go out on a few times per summer.

That's what the guys at Western Electric called 'em when I worked up there many moons ago. Did your sergeant ever happen to ride an official horse with a smoky the bear hat perchance?

Then it's easy to see the source of such manufactroversy.

His mother must be very proud.

Did others report reveal how they think they learned that?

Well, so long to the yellow interval argument, huh?
