You have been watching to much science fiction
on television. It is gonna be a long time until robots or computers replace truck drivers. Maybe
in 40 or 50 years. Technology is great but it has
its limitations. Do you really think people are ever
going to be comfortable with 80,000 lb machines
with no driver driving down the highway? NOT...

I would. Too many stupid people out here with a cdl. And the driver would still be there in case of emergency.

I know they exist. But unleashing them is a whole different thing. Who is going to take responsibilty for that? What will insurance rates be? What will be the cost of all your sensors? You think trucks are expensive now?

And what do you save......$50,000 on a driver? Not even because you still need drivers at the beginning and end. Why not just fire the two worst drivers and keep they better of the three and let him pull triples. Makes way more sense to me.

Your overthinking this. Instead of "driverless" think "advanced cruise control" where once cruise is engaged the truck system takes over all control.

Computers do what they're programmed to do. Human drivers still have human error.

And truckers, they're not magically better at driving. Honestly, I usually see more reckeless truckers than 4 wheelers. Watching the brainless #### that I see these so called "drivers" do every day, I welcome the idea of trucks not needing drivers. Want that future to not happen? Then start putting the phone down, sharing the road, taking responsibility for your mistakes, and just drive.

They're experimenting with driverless cars. That's different than "having" them I think. besides, once they get it down they still have to clear some unbelievable liability issues. My grand kids won't see driverless trucks on our backroads. We don't even have cell service yet.

And how would that work? The emergency thing? The computer says "your turn?" or "please rectify the moose in the road in .005 seconds..."

Sensor failure, computer failure, new construction area, detours, city driving. Stuff like that.
When you think about your day most of the time trucks are on big major roads where all we do is keep the truck in the correct lane. They already have lane departure warning systems, sensors in the front to detect obstacles on the front, side warning systems to warm about cats next to you. Tie all that together and this truck could drive itself down a interstate with no problem.

You forgot the single most important thing in that equation.....they can't think, or reason, yes they may be able to proces info very quickly , but its still a thinking and reasoning job. They can't possibly be programmed to react line a thinking human being can. At least not yet.

Have you seen a lot of these drivers out here? I don't want them to think. I don't want them anywhere near a truck.
