Say it's 7 pm, I just pulled into the local truck stop for my 10 hour break. I go inside and buy some slim jims, some peanuts, and one 40 oz beer. I should be able to take that beer back to my truck and drink it right then right? By the time 10 hours is up I will be stone cold sober. I just make sure to throw the empty bottle in the trash before I leave so it's not in my truck if I get inspected or something. This is all right right? Not joking, I'm serious. The same thing goes on a 34 hour reset. Why can't I drink a beer in my truck when I'm off duty for 34 hours? You mean I already have to live in a small tin can 24 hours a day 7 days a week, can't go out on a date with a woman or have a social life after I get off work like most people, and on top of that I can't even drink one beer in my truck while I am off duty for 34 or 10 hours? Really. hmmmmmmm?

10 hours is one thing, but why would you want to be in your truck for a 34 hour restart?!?

If someone sees you buy the beer and take it inside the truck, and reports it, you will have cops all over you before much of your 10 is complete.

You can only do that in a rig with a manual transmission.

Open container laws Apply to all vehicle occupants except for passengers of vehicles designed, maintained or used primarily for the transportation of people for compensation (such as buses, taxi cabs, and limousines) or the living quarters of motor homes.

    Motor home: —noun

a small bus or trucklike vehicle with a roomlike area behind the driver's seat outfitted as living quarters.

Seems to me you're okay. Go grab a cold one.

I've done it plenty of times. Just be careful about people seeing you carrying it back to your truck, a lot of drivers can't seem to mind their own business and will call your company.

If you look closely... most truck stops post that it's illegal/prohibited to drink alcoholic beverages on their premises.

Now... why do you think they would do that?

Actually you will have to take a 24 since that's how many hours you legally have to wait after your last drink before operating a cmv which is a great law that I agree with
