I beg to differ with you sir....

Does it have a trickle down efffect? yes and that is how it is supposed to be, I didn't put everything on the line for NOTHING.

Consumers will always buy products, will they conserve (maybe) but they will still pay for it and cry all the way home from the grocery store. Some people will either start going to school to better themselves and find a better paying jobs, some stay at home moms/dads will go back to work, others will have to get rid of the extra toys. Even some of the poor will have to start growing their own veggies, and food etc. etc. But freight will NEVER come to a stand still!

 

umm, coast to coast freight has come to a stand still, it has been much slower these last 2 years than lets say 4-5yrs ago

 

Slow is not a stand still! Will freight slow down? Sure. Will freight come to a dead stop? NO

 

No it has not come to a standstill..... Rates are rising.

 

This is NOT just the 'elites'...but everyone that runs a good business. This is JUST good business sense. Why should one absorb a cost as it continues to rise...so they don't offend the buyer? A cost is a cost...a cost of doing business; be it electrical power for the plant, water supply to make the product, packaging costs, labor costs...etc. Fuel is just another cost and a truck driver that works as an O/O needs to pass that cost down as well.

Its not that they are 'charging more money'...its that they are trying to "break even and not go out of business" by the rising cost of fuel. The store owner also doesnt always have to raise prices. They can absorb some of it by adjusting their profit margin. Wal Mart has a high profit margin on everything they sell. Toys for example are marked up 30%. They can lower that profit margin down to 25% or so...still make a profit albiet a less of one...yet the customer will still pay the same price.
Secondly...with grocieries and such costing what they do...its not that the products are expensive...its that they are getting to be more realistic of what they SHOULD be. The American Farmer today is still making the same total gross income he made in the 70's...while having to still deal 21st century prices of his materials needed to grow / create your food. Think of a gallon of milk...say it costs 3 bucks. Well just skim half of that right there for processing costs from the company and he is left with a buck and a half for each gallon. If his cows make a couple of hundred gallons..thats what...maybe 350 a day for running his dairy operation? Thats supposed to cover his overhead, feed (often specially formulated), taxes...etc?

With all due respect Sir! Do you personally know any folks on a FIXED income? Your inner circle may only consist of wealthy elitist but the majority of Americans are now hurting because of the policy of the rich get richer on the backs of the poor! Well the poor are getting poorer and this type of mentality will stop! Does the fact that elderly folks going hungry here in the U.S.A. bother you in the least?

 

you can differ all that you want to, but what i said is a fact. you mentioned people growing their own veggies. i guess you don't haul produce, otherwise you would be out of a job if everyone gets tired of the prices and starts growing their own. you seem to be doing well with your business and that's good, but things can change in an instant, better remember that.

Lots of people are on a fixed income...meaning it doesnt change. I am. My wife is. I was last year, the year before that, and the year before that, as well as she.

Policy of the rich getting richer? Is...is that the same policy of the successful becoming more successful? No wait...its the achievers achieving more? Nah...wait...wait...um...no wait, I got this one, give me a minute. hmm. Well Ill just hold off on that. But basically you are against people doing well. So that means you want everyone to be limited to the extent they can profit and succeed in their lives and companies...right?

And explain to me why the poor are getting poorer. I would really like to see some great examples. Because all I see now is people who make a low limited income signing up for ARM mortgages on homes they can't afford and when the adjustable rates...adjust, they lose their shirts. Yet, they buy a 4 ton SUV for no good reason whatsoever, that gets about 10mpg on the highway, .2 in town, they are maxed out on 8 different credit cards, they don't have a budget...etc. Granted, this is NOT always the case, but its a good chunk of the reason why we are where we are now as far as the economy is concerned.
