Go to the Google Play Store. Uninstall the Google maps from your device. Reboot the device. Go back to the Google Play Store and reinstall the Google maps. There may be some corrupted data on your device causing the app to crash. This should resolve the issue. If not, a full factory reset may be needed. I do not believe the Google maps app is the issue as any bugs that have ever appeared are usually corrected within 24 hours considering there are nearly a billion users of this app.

I've cleared the cache and done reinstalls. There are millions of users in the U.S. but a small percentage of those use it as much as a professional driver does. If you see those product forum posts, a lot of those people didn't notice any problems until they went on a road trip.

    Many more posts here.

You are understanding that Google is not taking into account any truck attributes when routing?

It is not Google maps that is the root of the problem. Every Android powered device that is not running pure Android, such as a Nexus device, adds a twist to the base Android firmware. Every manufacturer and cell provider tries to tweak the firmware to its liking. The problem is this often creates hardware and software conflicts with the device. For example, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 AT&T version contained 6 corrupt files added to the root directory that was causing the GPS chip to randomly shut down. This made using a GPS program on the device a real pain in the butt. For nearly 6 months, AT&T claimed it was Samsungs fault, even though the same firmware running on Galaxy Note 3 editions on Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile was not causing this issue. Outside software developers identified the problem and corrected it by replacing the 6 files on the AT&T Galaxy Note 3 and the GPS problem went away.

I recommend browsing the XDA Developers forum at the link below. Some of the best software developers in the world post here and can solve any known device software issue. I usually do not read user comments from people on other sites if they are not qualified software developers or someone with a strong background in modifying the firmware on a mobile device.

I'm a regular Google Maps app user on iPhone and always install the updates. I have not seen any issues. But it prefers a solid 4G connection to work well. Maybe turn off traffic and see if that helps.

I don't know why you get the idea I'm sort of novice here. But thanks for the input. Very familiar with XDA site will check.

About Nexus, you cannot get a more pure Android experience. I bought it directly from Google. I bought the phone outright from Google. The Nexus devices are some of the only devices to have already received the latest Android update 4.4.4

But thanks for all the useful info. You still ignore the scores of people having the same problem. I am sure Google will come out with a fix at some point.

I already said a Nexus device is pure Android. Read the first line of my last post. Nearly 99% of devices are not running pure Android, so the customized firmware provided by the device manufacturer and cell provider is prone to hardware and software conflicts. Unless you flashed a custom firmware to your Note 2, it is not running a pure Android firmware.

Have you tried installing the APK for a previous version of Google maps, such as 4.2 or 4.0 on your Note 2?

Sound like OP is having data issues. I use Google Maps extensively on my Galaxy Note 3 and Note 10.1 2014 with a Verizon connection and haven't experienced any issues.

I was in a hurry and didn't read all your post, sorry about that. I guess I'm going to have to invest some major time into this. I haven't tried previous versions on the Note 2. I have home time starting this Thursday and will root the Note 2 and try to get to the root of the problem there so to speak and try previous versions.

But here today I have had multiple crashes on both devices. The Nexus 5 gps works fine while it is running but then crashes. The Note 2 sometimes has trouble even locking on to location and will then crash after awhile randomly not always.

So I'll have a few days off and will try some of things you suggested beyond what I've already done.
