Depends on the location. Here, some city guys start @ 11pm sunday on the dock and transition P&D into monday morning. It's not typical unless freight is really heavy/or some really need to start monday freight moving. Locations vary. kinda optional.

Saturdays varies here, Sometimes a very impatient u-pack customer needs a pick up and if regular driver is on vacation / sick/ PTO city guy picks it up. not typical. but not unusual, locations vary

Help with linehaul? I've been with the line haul guys incase i would have to do the routes recently. No, i was not a helper, Yes i helped. but not a "helper".
We are a small terminal, Everyone of us is jack of all trades.

Never seen the 4 on 3 off crap. 1st year or so, screw that 3 off crap, work many hours as possible. could be 70 1 week and 5hrs the next week on the bottom and 4 weeks no work and then slammed with 40-70hr weeks for 6 months.

    gravdigr,
I had an interview May 9, 2014. I have called the recruiter/head hunter a couple of times. He said I was still good. I have heard it sometimes takes up to 3 months to get called in for the road test and all. Is there truth in this. I looked at Glassdoor and Indeed and two drivers reiterated that 3 month statement. I guess I just wanted your input. Right now I work for an LTL carrier as a linehaul driver, but want the ABF pension and benefits. Please give me some guidance.

ABF is very low on the radar for about anyone. No high profile media events, has ugly sterlings and rarely anyone knows exist outside LTL :biggrin_2559:
Not a attractive company for new folks.

Big reason is our new vacation policy. Now takes two years to get 1 weeks vacation.

I've been with ABF for nine years in line haul. What do you want to know?

    Boy Howdy,
I just wanted to know if it normal to take this long for background check. I interviewed 2 months ago. How long was it for you? We had a driver who left here (CWF). It took him 3 weeks, but his TM was calling Arkansas everyday, because they were so desperate. I've got 22 years of driving experience with the last 2.5 in LTL. I'm kinda dumb founded about this waiting. The head hunter said they were short handed. What gives?????
