The last house I lived in I sold to a guy who burned it down a week after we closed on the deal. He was using gasoline to clean the old carpet adhesive off the floor next to the propane hot water heater with an active pilot light burning.

Common sense isn't taught. If it was taught...it wouldn't be common. Common sense is something that should be natural...that's why it's common.

Some people have the ability to look at a situation and make a decision based upon the rights/wrongs of their actions in a matter of moments. Other folks lack that ability and they are the folks that stick their hands into wood chippers trying to retrieve their hat or they lose most of their toes in a lawnmower because they were attempting to kick the clog of wet grass out of the chute while the blade was spinning.

I honestly believe that some people just don't have that "cog" in the gears of their brains that allows them to make a rational decision. They are the same people that take refuge under the tallest and biggest tree during a thunderstorm because they don't want to get wet.

I agree somewhat. I think some of it is today's parents. Today's parents are nothing like yesterday years parents.

Back them we had chores to do, & we had better get them done. And when we got in trouble there was punishment.

Today's parents, at least many of them try to be their child's best friend, & teaches them they do not have to obey anyone & to do what ever it may be that will bring them happiness. My parents did not operate like that.

    Neither did mine.

I remember the one (and only) time when my father hit me and my twin brother across the face (we were 7 yrs. old). I used a hammer and put a whole in the living room wall and when the parents discovered it they were pissed. Dad lined us up and kept asking us which one of us did it. I kept lying about it and my brother didn't have any idea what was going on. So my dad hauled off and whacked both of us both in the kisser and I immediately fessed up (bawling and carrying on because I couldn't believe he would smack us in the noggin). I got sent to my room and my dad came upstairs and really tanned my hide.

He didn't tan my butt because I lied, and he didn't tan my butt because I put the hole in the wall. He tanned my butt because he hit my brother for something I did. That was one valuable lesson for me right there. My dad just turned 80 last May. If you were to ask him about that day back in 1969 he'd tell you exactly how it went down.

Why in the world would anyone want to heat hot water?

Hot water is already hot, isn't it?

(I kid, I kid... I always get a kick out of such phrases. :))

There is no such thing as "common sense". What we refer to as common sense is really the sum of knowlege and experience added together. This product enable critical thinking over a broad range of situations. It's not so much that young people are dumb; as it is that their base of knowledge and experience has been limited by...........you name it.....their entertainment, their parents, etc etc.

I see 40 yr old guys who don't have the "common sense" that I had at 20. Am I smarter?? No......but my base of knowledge and experience was much deeper because of my upbringing. We can ALL learn.....and should everyday.....it's the ones that WON'T learn that ya gotta watch out for!!!!!:biggrin_25510:
