The fence (gps around your truck is finite (0 to X miles +/- set by admin) Cross the fence without HOS and BEEP,BEEP, BEEP! RedLights Flashing, Jill the onboard voice warns you of a violation! The next stop (yellow brake release) triggers the sensors to update your location to the mothership and a BIG RED ALERT!
Today I had the pleasure (not really) of sitting in a dispather's office, he showed me how they can see all company trucks by using Satelite Maps (earth) connected to the trk GPS gps) accurate down to 1 meter! ( A dirty little secret, your dispatcher doesn't want you to know???) Everything is time stamped!
There are some drivers who can hack the system, bypassing the datalink in an attempt to falsify a log but rarely get away with it. Other guys have tried logging out of qualcomm but the truck OBER is still recording everything. They are The Master and you are the slave...
Last but not least is Personal Conveyance: If you are empty, unladen and not under any assignment it logs Driving as off-duty and you can go shopping at Wally's World, or to a truck Stop ( but not Home, that's called commuting and does not qualify ) Sweet! But it is only available if your company has installed the software patch in your DUI (Driver Unit Interface).
Plan your work and work your plan....Don't run out HOS! -
The Qualcomm MCP200 is nothing more than a primitive computer. It only sends and receives data according to what its Sensors transmit to it . If you unplug the Data Cable (the one with two thumb screws) and the thick black Phone Type Data Plug from the Main Processor you can move wherever you want, get to your destination and plug it back in and you will still be on your last Duty Status. It works everytime.
You will fool the Computer because it still thinks the truck hasn't moved. Even if you are 20 miles away, your location will still be reported as if it was at your Last Duty Status.
If you check the Keyboard Screen when it is powered up again you will see that it still is reporting the same location that the truck was in 20 miles before you moved.
Let's say you're Out of Hours, in the Sleeper and you need to move, unplug it, move and you will still be in the Sleeper when you plug it back in, just don't change any Duty Status or do any Arrived, Empty Macros until you have Hours again or the Qualcomm will put you on the Drive Line because you inputed info into the System and now the Computer checked it against the GPS and saw that you moved.
Nothing is foolproof, not even Electronic Logs. This has been tested and proven to work.Last edited: Jul 18, 2014

drive to the truck stop and park your truck. if you are scolded for doing so,seek employment elsewhere. you will be fine regardless and a good night's sleep will make it that much better-

HINT: you won't find it -
I drive a day day cab in town, many times I have been stuck at a customer and running out of hours 10 miles from home so I call my Safety director and he tells me just to type the reason in the computer why I'm out of hours and I have never had a problem, Legal or not I don't know, it just sounds reasonable sense I'm in a city driver, perhaps I shouldn't have responded to the question.
