Go to a private or community college CDL school and then a few companies will hire you. With your record, the school may require pre-hire letters before thay admit you to classes, but that's no problem.

Yes,itll be tough. I had a trainer at CRST that had 3 accidents in the last 9 years. They let him train. If you do get hired dont drive 5 to 7 over the speed limit everywhere you travel. We have enough of these road warriors to worry about everyday.Theyll pass ona bridge, construction zone, mountain Anywhere. Geez they got there 7 minutes before you, wow!

Anything 15 mph over the posted speed limit is considered reckless driving. That will be a problem for most carriers, especially starting out. Most carriers pull a 3 year mvr. I would wait until the offense drops off your mvr before doing anything. Once 3 years have passed, you can pull your own mvr to make sure it has dropped off your recent record. Some carrier will pull a longer mvr, but most only consider the last 3 years. If the criminal charges are felonies, then you will usually need to wait from 7-10 years for most carriers to consider you. If they were not felonies, then you will have a better chance of getting into this business. Carriers look very closely at anything that is drug or alcohol related. Each carrier makes their own determinations when it comes to criminal history. If I were you, I would check with some of the major carriers before you spend the money on driving school. You don't want to spend thousands of dollars on school if you can't find employment. Once you have a CDL, everything that happens in a motor vehicle follows your CDL. If you get a ticket in a 4 wheeler it will show up on your commercial drivers license. Most smaller carriers won't be able to cover a new driver on their insurance, so you will likely need to find a larger carrier to get started. Carriers and insurance companies are getting much more strict on driver history and behaviors. Most are looking closer at your mvr and criminal history. If you have too many tickets or certain criminal convictions, you could lose your career. Most carriers, or I should say insurance companies, will allow 2-3 moving violations during the previous 3 years. Criminal convictions are looked at differently. Any criminal convictions while in a commercial vehicle is usually a career ender if it involves certain crimes, such as drugs, alcohol or theft. If you want to drive a truck these days, you must keep your mvr and background pretty clean.

I love the all the haters and constructive replies alike. There is a big difference between not knowing how to drive and being a punk who doesn't give a crap about authority or the law on the road. I am just happy I never picked up any dui's or drug charges or felonies or god forbid hurt anybody or myself when I was out there wrecking havoc. When I was younger (15-18) I liked to get loaded and see how fast I could drive around town in my little sports car. I dont really get the haters though, we have a common interest of driving and a common foe of the law trying everything they can to muck up our licenses and write citations. I know I can drive, I have been driving since I was working on a farm driving tractors at the age of 13, I am now a good defensive driver who has learned from my experiences and driven all types of vehicles from a 600cc suzuki gsxr to a rollback international tow truck with an 7 speed all over the country in all conditions.

Does anyone know if its the date of the offense or the date of the conviction when looking at your mvr?

The open container , is bad enough , but the disorderly conduct charge show that you may have a problem working well with others , or a problem with authority figures....This statement sorta reveals that.....

Cops are NOT the enemy.....they are merely doing their jobs....getting loaded and driving fast are both choices.....really bad ones....Your choices so far haven't been good ones...But , if you have made the choice to straighten up and do whats right , then you still have an opportunity , it may take a while for you to land a job trucking...but I would give some really serious thought to finding another line of work for a few years , show potential employers that you learned your lesson , went to work and stayed at it til there was enough time in-between your youth and and the past. In other words , show folks that you have matured...that my friend can only happen with time...allniter, semi retired semi driver, TomOfTx and 1 other person Thank this.
