I'm interested in the Gopro Hero3 black edition. I have read that the gopros were not great dash cams because they did not have a loop function. My understanding is that they now have the ability to run in a loop mode. Anyone know if this is correct? From the guys that have gopros are they fairly simple to run and do you like them?

I hunt and fish a lot and would like a camera for that. If I could use the gopro as my dash cam it would be great.

GOPRO does have a loop function. I use one as a dash cam, got it after cheap TS dash cams kept falling. Works great and you can adjust all the setting with your smart phone, much easier than scrolling through menus.

How do you save footage if you have an incident?

i have the GoPro Hero 3 White Edition.

get a 64gb sdhc card, a 10' mini-usb to usb cable (amazon.com) and next time you are a truck stop spend $5.99 on one of those little 12v usb plugs like this

that way you can run it non-stop.

Put it in 720p 30 fps mode. it will run for 14 hours straight. it breaks the files into 2 gb movies.

if nothing happens, delete the files and start a fresh the next day. if something happens. you just choose the most recent files and make a copy for yourself and always nice to have a few blank dvds lying around to spin a copy for law enforcement or an insurance company should the need arise.

theres also a ton of mounts you can buy for it for different uses. i use mine in my car, hiking, working on projects i want to document, mountain climbing, skydiving and more. chest mounts, helmet mounts, head mounts, handle bar mounts, seat post mounts, tripod mounts and more. so many possibilities.

and yes they make great dashcams. the quality is outstanding. mine loops or goes continuous.

I ordered the Hero3+ Black this afternoon. Should be a fun toy especially in the goose blind, deer stand, and spear shack.

I have a gopro I use as a dash cam in my car now and then and on my motorcycle the only problem is the battery life. They only last 2 or so hours on a charge.
