Yes in a right to work state ,they can fire you for anything they want to fire you for and pay the first two weeks of unemployment IF it was an unreasonable termination ....as a employee in a right to work state you can also leave without a two week notice for any reason and this cannot put on record ,ANYTHING on a DAC report MUST BE FACTS ONLY ,you have the right dispute ANYTHING on your DAC by law !!!
It pays to know your rights ,things they don't want you to know

It just depends on your situation and how your company allows you to use off duty driving. If your company allows you to use off duty driving while unloaded and not under dispatch you can leave and find a "Safe haven" while logging off duty. I believe DOT will allow up to 2 hours but tread lightly. Just talk your dispatcher and see what they allow and don't allow, Especially if you have E-Logs.

Adverse conditions only applies to things unforeseen like weather or an accident. Not a customer that decides to take their good ol' time. Then at that it has to be used within your 14. But yes you can use personal conveyance as long as you don't advance. You're empty right? I'm going to Walmart to get some groceries officer.

It happened to me today, but I got lucky. The customer allows us to take our 10 in the lot if we need to.
Good thing, after a 6 hour lumper unload. I was minus 3 hours on my 14 at that point.

If push came to shove, there is a Walmart 7 miles from here that I could have driven to under the safe haven rule.

Not if you were minus 3 hours on your 14. Like Condo stated safe haven only applies to unforeseen circumstances.

The manger of the safety dept in one of the many terminals has told me there's no such thing as the "safe haven rule".. I didn't go door klnockin or call every single one of them and use it regardless if necessary

You're half right. There is a safe haven rule that applies to drivers carrying hazmat. The adverse condition rule can be used to get to a stopping point due to accidents, weather and other adverse conditions. You can drive an additional 2 hours within the 14 hour window.

this is what has pushed me to work union. companies like to bend the rules as it suits them, but you are the one on the hook. not all companies are like this, but plenty of crap ones are. im not going to sit there and be reprimanded when im doing the job safely and legally. just because other drivers are afraid to stick up for their own livelyhood, doesnt mean im going to lay down as well....

if would probably help if werner didnt have a bunch of frat boy college dropouts as dispatch, as well.
