Well, I have two recruiters from there emailing me now, and neither one has yet to answer my letter I emailed them. Here it is:

    R**** & S*******,

    Thank you for the reponse.

I do have a few questions to ask about Stevens. I have been reading, and comparing, different companies for months-hearing only negative about Stevens. No pay during schooling, no food allowance, terrible living conditions at the school, and trainers that you just do not want to have sitting next to you in a cab. Please review this, for me, and let me know if I am mistaken.

I have reviewed alot on glassdoor.com, and indeed.com to further my knowledge about Stevens, and do not feel that it is the correct school for me. Please tell me I am wrong, and convince me that Stevens is the correct place for me to grow, and learn.

If you have decided Stevens isn't the place for you, then for heavens sake find one that is!
As for trainers? Just like everywhere, there are good, bad and in between. Most trainers have students that love them, others that hate them. It's largely a personality thing. But I agree, as in any group, there are some that are just plain bad and shouldn't be training. And Stevens weeds them out as they find out about them.
Paid to train? What? this is the army? No, you don't get paid when you go to community college, or a private CDL school either.
you do get paid when you're out on the truck with a trainer.
    Living conditions? Again...personal opinion.

If you do your research correctly you can get paid to train, and go to school. If you like being poor, and you like suffering-don't research. Also, the behavoirisms that Stevens is showing right now are the exact same as many companies that are on their last leg(s), and going belly up. I give them six months, if that much, before they file for bankruptcy.

I also wonder how many recruiters are actually here reading posts under assumed screen names?

What national companies will pay during your CDL school time? You might get some help through the VA but trust me the 3 weeks your in CDL school is too short for the money from the VA to make a dent in either the tuition. Once you get to Texas and get officially hired(after passing medical, background, skills, etc) you start getting paid to train. Also if you don't like being poor you may want to rethink trucking because you won't get rich anytime soon doing it. Now with that being said if $35k - $40k is good for you welcome but remember your attitude will get you there as well as your skills and it sounds like you might be asking too much from a starter company. I researched for quite awhile before I selected Stevens and I could not find any perfect company out there, several friends from high school who are drivers(never with Stevens I might add) told me that Stevens had the best training by reputation out on the road. Plus I am in my upper 40's so i have come to realize perfection is in the eye of the beholder and not someone online.

A recruiter is a salesperson nothing more nothing less and with that I have said enough on that.

Find a company that meets what you want then stick with them even when you find out they are not perfect, none are. Once you get a year or four in you can start asking for more.

I'm in my 40's also, and half way in the door with a company that will pay to train, provide meals with training, and a room. A recruiter is more than likely a commission based salesperson, so they could care less as long as they "get their numbers," and their paycheck. Will I be more poor, if I am already broke? No. I can only go up in those ranks with employment. You are correct, perfection is in the eye of the beholder-is it time for an eye exam?

    You keep researching.

Yep, you all heard it right here on this internet. Stevens will be bankrupt in 6 months.
I love it when so called intelligent people make wild assumptions about an industry when they have zero experience in said industry. Their entire base of knowledge is based on someone else's postings on the internet.
Just so you know "PikesPeak", Stevens is doing quite well. They have a healthy profit forecast. They still make contributions to the 401K, unlike some companies that have dropped that.
They are debt free, are you?
I can't count the number of "newbies" who have told me they could run this company better than the owners, but seem to disappear after about 6 month's because they haven't a clue how to run a trucking company much less run a single truck.
Good luck in whatever venture you decide on, but don't disparage a company you have no experience in. That just shows your ignorance.

    TLeaHeart and drake3d Thank this.

Yea...Stevens broke...and the moon is made of green cheese.
You can hate them, you can make fun of the trucks or the drivers, but not making profit? Hah!
That's why they acquired the Kraft fleet.
That's why they recently acquired more than 28 new Coca Cola freight lanes with more than 150 additional loads per week.
Again...made Tyson preferred vendor list for the quarter. Whole Foods top freight vendor. Walmart increased freight more than 8% with Stevens this past quarter.
Yea...these companies want to place their freight with a company that's going broke.
    I'll take your bet.
