team drive as in he drives team when not training? no. he drives solo until he has a trainee with him. in fact, when you are training, they are not really supposed to "team drive". they are supposed to let the trainee drive and for the most part thats it. i dont think any of the otr go by that rule though lol.

and yeah, you were right! 6 weeks lol. i'm happy with it though because by the time i'm on my own, i should be a pretty good professional driver.

so come to find out, i guess Carter Express DOES hit most of the states. For instance, if you can drive out of the ARK terminal, you can hit a good portion of the west coast. I had no clue.

I paid for my first physical. My drug test was part of that. No they dont have cameras in their trucks. Yes, they have 4 safety meetings a year, a couple driver appreciation days and a few holiday parties. They give away harleys and lots of cash. Never heard about cars, though.

Sounds like you had fun !

Does backing seem easier or harder than you expected ?

Its good they give you backing in real life situations.

Do they let you make video's ? Would love to see some good training video. :)

They have fender camera on the trucks that point at the trailers but its not on every truck. I think they were gonna put them on every truck but the driver feed back they got wasn't that great on them so they opted not to do that. You mainly learn backing in CDL school. I cant speak for the other guy he went to sage. But its easy enough and shouldn't take you long to get the hang of it. I came through the trainee program all by myself so I don't have to share time with anyone..lol Usually you will be with each trainer a full 2 weeks. But I only had to do 4 days with my 1st trainer probably because of not other students being there. Yea they give away a Harley or you can choose to have the cash instead of the motorcycle.

When I started driving, I drove with my first trainer to Essexville, Michigan and Back to Anderson.. 600+ miles round trip... I drove 3/4 of the time and he drove the rest. Then with 2nd trainer We drove to Canton, Mississippi and Back to anderson.. About 1200+ miles round trip had to sleep in truck. Its post to be you driving and then you take your 10 hour rest at same time but me and my trainer team drove. Then we Team drove to Shelbyville, TN, and back to anderson. Today I done shuttle runs and will do that the whole week I guess.. We just grab a trailer from Nestle and take it down to Franklin, IN and do that all day which is about 3-4 trips.

Yesterday we met at 6am because 2 of us trainees had to go get our fingerprints done for the hazmat. We started the day at Carter Express and then went down to the first training range. We did some straight backing and docking, offset backing and docking from both sides and 90 degree turns. We all seemed to have it real well yesterday with no pull ups or 1 pull up and no direction from the trainer. He called in to dispatch I guess and told them we were gonna come in and do a Nestle run. It's the same kind of run Hoppy as talking about.

We go back to Carter Express (Logistics) and pick up the paperwork. We already had a reefer unit so we drove it over to the Nestle lot and dropped it, picked up our load and off we went. We went and weighed it at Carter Logistics. We have our own scales there. It was HEAVY! We shoot down to Franklin, drop it, grab an empty and head back. We stop at a truck stop and they pay for our lunch again. We leave there and head back to the terminal. After that he dismisses us so I head back to Indy to do my fingerprinting.

Fun day. I'm loving this stuff!

Sounds like fun , glad things are going well for you. I see Hoppy has been pretty bust also.

You guys have been sharing good info , always looking forward to your post.

It will be interesting to hear about your travels in the future and real life out on the road.

I think someone here said you do the Nestlé to Franklin run also if you are short on hours, how is the trip there and back ?
Good roads , easy access and backing at both places ?

What is hourly pay , is it the same for all new hires. Kelli had told me about this but don't remember about the pay and a driver I seen and talked to where they keep their trailers said that is all he does is transfers trailers and when drivers don't get enough miles they do that also.

I hope its not something that happens all the time but would be ok some times but think I would rather be getting those long trips.

Solo to Laredo and back would be a good run , I think :) Don't really know but the miles would be good.

Does Carter Express go into Mexico or Canada ?

If your solo then orientation is 375 and every week after is 400 a week. If you work extra its 80 bucks a day. Paragould does the majority of Solo Laredo runs and Yes carter goes to Mexico and Canada.. Its about a 900 mile trip down and 900 back so looking at 1800 mile round trip from Paragould, Arkansas.
