Yes, this school is a joke. Everyone is resorting to counting seconds between turns on the maneuvers, because they don't get decent drive time. This actually works quite well.

Like on the parallel parking: Turn the wheel one full turn the opposite direction for backing, release the clutch and count eight seconds as the truck backs up, then turn the wheel completely the opposite direction and count to 3, when the tractor is aligned with the trailer SLAM ON THE BRAKES, next straighten your wheels so you can go straight back, etc...

I'm seriuosly going to try to get my money back.

that works for a reg 10 sp too.

at the school i went to they had spray painted marks on the concrete to tell you when to do what. EX. pull up perpendicular to the "parking spot" when your rear drive tire gets to the far line/cone turn hard right. pull up till your bumper gets to the line (painted) and turn left until you are just a bit past straight. complete backing maneuver.
i still use the drive tire to guide me when to swing out to this day. only thing different is who knows how far you will have in front of you (can you say pilot LOL) to clear your tractor tire when backing. that is where i think they should teach a little "jacking it in there"

Yea, even our classroom time is a joke. If you fail a test, they just make you retake it until you pass.

well, im not that worried anymore. i was most worried about maneuvers. you know, the parellel parking, alley dock and reverse lane change...but not so much the straight line back

well, my instructor graded me today the way i would be at the testing site ill be going to, and the only one i missed any points on was alley docking...missed 3...but the other 3 i didnt miss a single point...and here in OH, not sure about any where else, but we can miss 12 points in the maneuver test...so i did pretty #### well id have to say...and i have that parellel parking down #### near perfect...i get it in there in one shot every time...no pull ups or anything...lots easier then i thought it was going to be

It is as hard as you make it. What seems to be the biggest killer anymore to new drivers is the pre-trip inspection. As far as the driving test, forget about the guy or gal beside you and do what you have been trained to do. I think nerves get most of the ones that fail.

Pre trip is easy - but I can see where people would have problems with it. They see "over 100 items" and panic. What they SHOULD see is ... I forget, but it's something like 40 items .. and a lot of repetition.

Kudos to you, Drummer. Parallel parking is the bane of my existence. I *probably* would have done better in the final test if I'd tested in the truck I was practicing in. Oh well. I passed. Now I'm a danger to myself and others!

    Wheeee!
