Well most newbs want exactly the opposite. You are lucky that you will be home every night! The down side imop,is that you are going to learn the hard way first. Local driving can be a real bear! A lot more things to have to pay attention to. In and out of small parking lots cars cars and more cars, pedestrians
. When you get threw 6months of local driving, you will defiantly have the upper hand on a driver that started otr the same time as you. I would roll with it...who knows, you might not want to be otr 2 to 3 weeks at a time? Good luck man!
littleduck Thanks this. -
Local driving doesn't count as experience for OTR companies.
Make some phone calls to verify this is you want.
Several drivers have posted on here, they did it like that and can't understand why OTR companies won't hire them. So now they've wasted months of time and back to square one.blairandgretchen, littleduck, ethos and 1 other person Thank this. -

Call around to see which companies have their own schools. I think Conway, Werner, CREngland DON'T go to Swift. Check out Covenant and Schnieder also.

Figure out what you want I.e. what you want to haul, hometime, regional, dedicated, OTR, etc. and find a company that best suits you.
BTW from what I hear ROEHL has a pretty good training program as well. -
The majority of drivers start out OTR. I don't see any reason you can't start your career over the road.
