Ok, GPS is now on every dashboard of every motor vehicle. They mostly get their information from the same bad data bases. There are truck based units which have slightly better data bases but are still riddled with errors. The processors used in most units are minimum, updates are difficult, and the manufacturers find reasons not to allow updates and force you into another unit.

These are no longer an "aid". Their need to be reliable is as much as the truck they are in needs to go down the road without issues.
Garmin makes navigational gps for aircraft. Pilots need to bet on the navcom equip in their ####pit, and I'll bet Garmin among others doesn't disappoint. I don't need aircraft quality in my cab, but I do need something better than the glorified consumer level stuff that is out there.

I would be willing to pay big money, $1500 possibly more, with a monthly fee in the $30-40 dollar range to get a unit that would:
    1. Updates itself automatically through the 4G phone networks without my prompting including maps and Accurate POI's
    2. Have a fast processor, I mean 3-4 times faster than currently used
    3. With 1 or 2 inputs tell me ACCURATELY what truck services are available on the next exit, given town etc. In other words, don't send me to Joes Tire service and barber shop when he stopped servicing trucks 6 years ago.
    4. Does not rely on the internet, because when I need info, the internet is not available. Hence the large memory required, and POI info updates.
    5. Make it available to individuals, not just giant fleets with 1000's of trucks.

I will ask the readers what additional features they would want. If I am the only guy out there that would spring for this, then put me in the eccentric category, and I will go quietly.

    OP don't ask for much.

i spent $150 for copilot. haven't seen anyone complain on this forum yet. and i can download to any phone or tablet i'm using at the current moment. one time fee. i don't worry about updates. as i just don't see the national highway system changing every day or week or month.

it isn't perfect. but it's awful darn close.
my atlas, is a $60 toy that only provides me with phone numbers and what not. have yet to get my moneys worth out of the maps.

as for other things. there are apps that are free. and the internet. can't do much about that.

OK, for only $50 I'll hook you up with my ex-wife. She'll sleep most of the time, but she has an internal gps that will wake her up if you make a wrong turn. Then she will tell you where to go. She's also not afraid to yell out the window to another motorist and ask them for directions. Oh yeah, as long as you have a microwave, she can cook too.

12 virgins? :biggrin_2556: Maybe 1 or 2 virgins would be fun but wouldn't that get a bit boring? How about 2 virgins and 10 "pros"?:biggrin_255:
