To All inquiring minds, 1st off I had NO truck to turn in. 2nd during training I told these people during two different over the phone conversations I had an elderly parent in bad health that requires me to go to the bank, get his money and pay his bills around the end of each month. I'm a veteran and dealt with many F'd up situations....deployed to Afghanistan was another. Don't get it twisted guys; I'm not looking for sympathy just sharing my experience. The trucking industry just may not be for me with all the negative BS you gotta deal with.
US Xpress's new driver policy is UNREASONABLE

Depending on your location, there are several companies that offer weekends at home. This may be what you need for your situation.
Maverick
Jordan Carriers
Ozark Motor Lines
McElroy
CT Transportation
Builders Transportation Company
Mansur Trucking Co.Hitman, RubyEagle, Mr. Mister and 4 others Thank this. -
no one said this was an easy job. If you have that type of family business to take care of every month you need to find a local job hauling trash or driving a dump truck or something like that. Even the carriers that get you home on weekends wont allow you time to go to a bank because most banks are closed on weekends. Maybe this is the wrong career choice for you. Where are you located? That would help because someone on here may know a good gig for you.
The Challenger, ej2968 and Milkman719 Thank this. -
If you need to help care for an elderly parent, by all means do so. However, as SAD & UNFORTUNATE as this is, it can cause a serious situation with one's employer.
I was working as an employee for a local business, nothing to do with trucking. Some supervisors are sympathetic, others are not. The same also applies to other co-workers and colleagues. It is TRULY & GENUINELY a stressful situation.
Looking back on this, as sad & stressful as this situation was, I am GLAD that I went back home to assist my sisters. On the day our mother passed away, my sister and I were both at her bedside in her home. The following day, 10/1/2007, I was one of the pall bearers at my mothers funeral. What made it even more sad is that it was on my birthday.
SADLY & UNFORTUNATELY, from what I am seeing on the forum, not only is OTR trucking NOT conducive to raising a family, it is NOT conducive to helping care for aging parents. The job does NOT allow for sufficient time to be able to do all this.
I personally have never married and never had any children.
I HOPE one day to be able to go to a truck driving school to learn how to drive a truck. I am HOPING to be able to drive SOLO OTR to all 48 states and Canada.
In the mean time, I am in the process of cleaning up both my MVR and employment record through the passage of time. I am also working very hard to improve health to be able to comply with both D.O.T. and individual trucking company health standards, to be able to pass the physical.Last edited: Aug 2, 2014

I feel for your situation. I was really surprised with how much people jumped on this guy for wanting to go home. Maybe I am just different I don't Live to work. I work to live and my life isn't in a metal box on wheels. -
It's always been this way. the only company you can really trust is the one you own.Derailed Thanks this. -
You really have to look at it from both sides.
Family always comes first! If its a family Emergency,
then that takes priority. If its paying some bills, and such,
then that can be handled over the phone/computer.
Trucking does not allow,or care what we have going on
outside the cab.Im also sure they have heard every "My aunt died"
excuse you can think of as well.I have heard guys throw out soo
many family member deaths, that you yourself end up calling BS.
How many grandparents can one guy have?
We cant pick dates for these situations, and I know everyones priorities
are different.
Im gonna be there for my immediate loved ones, but work
hard to prove myself credable,if I have to be out.
I recently missed an Uncles funeral. My family is pretty small, and now Im
kinda in the dog house for not being there.I honestly could not afford to miss
work.No win situation. My grandmother had died a few months before, and
I missed work for that.
Family members don't care how trucking works, they just want you to be there.
Companies don't care what you have going on at home, they want you driving.
Put a lot of stress on a driver..My 2 centsWild Murphy and bergy Thank this.
