Perhaps they consider within 50 miles as "home". I don't know...just playing devil's advocate. I do know I got fired from Marten 5 years ago 1500 miles from home and they at least got me a bus ticket home (which they deducted from my final pay)

i never did did get that letter from Randy though

That's funny because I get the same postcard every 3-4 months. I never applied there either. I think the next time they mail me a postcard I'm going to wipe my ### with it and send it back to them.

When I worked for Heartland they had me relay a FedEx load in Memphis to another driver who was to deliver it in Houston. The other driver delivered it late and they ended up firing BOTH of us. Why fire me when I relayed on time? Because some middle manager wanted to show his boss they were being assertive. Their driver manager Jay is a world class #######.

There is your problem. Turnover for large companies (above $30 million in sales) was 96% last year. Meaning that of 100 drivers employed on January 1, ONLY FOUR will still be employed with the same company by December 31. And that is with ALL MAJOR CARRIERS in the industry.

If you don't have an emergency fund of at least $2,000 to cover car/room rental expenses when (not if) you get axed you're setting yourself up for problems.

I did. They tried not to pay by telling my state there was a "service failure" but as I told the state unemployment rep "they're right, there was a service failure but it wasn't MY service that failed!"

The state agreed with me and I got unemployment until I got signed on elsewhere.
