Yes we go to mexico and canada. They pay for the hourly I believe is $15.50 or something like that. Once you get out on your own, the hourly work is something extra. Let's say you have 3 hours left on your 70 and so you can do a quick Nestle Shuttle run to maximize your work that week. Or let's say you're not feeling well and want to stay close to home one day. You can do these hourly runs.
Orientation for non experienced trainees that go through SAGE first are paid $350 for that week of orientation and $400 for each training week after. If you have experience or didn't go through SAGE or something else is different with your situation, your pay may vary a little. Some people I've been told get $375 but I don't know what their situation is.
As far as not getting enough miles... if you don't get the miles you want, either 1) it's your fault for not keeping your left door shut or 2) you didnt run the board correctly. There is WAY MORE freight than we can even haul so the miles are always there.

Today starts my week 2. I have never in my life had a job that I woke up excited to get to work!
-
That's a great feeling but like all jobs I am sure some days are better than others. When I first got into aviation I felt the same way but now ready for a change.
I hope your enthusiasm last forever. I know I am looking forward to driving to going to be a while yet for me.iamchrisstone Thanks this. -

Someone said they were at one time not that good to work for but the company went through a lot of changes I guess and now seem pretty good. I know nothing about Carter Express other than what I have read on here. So it is nice of you all to share your info.
I hope its all good with no bad and ugly. -
Hey Chris and Hoppy you guys have any updates. Hows the job going ? Hope all is well.
Where all have you been driving to ?. -
sorry for the delay guys. last week i just did 1 run down to Franklin and back every day. bobtailed a couple times and even ran empty a couple times. when we were loaded, we were CLOSE to the max. one run i was weighing 79,960lbs LOL. 80k is max.
Yesterday (Sunday) i started with my next trainer. We left around 10am and went to hartwell ga with autoparts. got there last night, bumped the dock and got unloaded in about an hour. drove 2 miles to the next docked, bumped it and went to bed. woke up the next morning and they had us loaded almost exactly when our 10 was up. drove to the other side of the next building and bumped that dock so we could get loaded there. an hour or so later and we were headed back to Anderson. Got here tonight about 10, turned in BOL, dropped trailer, fueled, did post trip, washed windows, etc and that was it.
i'm gonna love this place! I'm sure there are things that I will run in to that I don't like, but nothing is perfect. anyway, i think this run is what i'm doing for the next 2 weeks. -
Did you do all the driving and backing ?
I wonder if all your drops and pickups will be that smooth. I was looking into TransAm and they are refer and haul a lot of meat. Seems like they are always going into places and waiting a long time to get loaded and unloaded and some very hard places to get into. But it's not all bad, they have nice newer Kenworth trucks with automatics , .32 cpm and do all 48 states.
Have also been looking at Knight Transportation there in Indianapolis.
So far :
#1. Carter Express
#2. Knight Transportation
#3. TansAm
Knight has schooling and TransAm does not.
So far everything sounds really good for Carter Express. I wish there were more drivers that were on here to share their info too.
How is your trainer , has he shared any info as to where all you will go , like what states ?
Hope all is going well and look forward to any info you have.
Take care ! -
Chris when you go to Franklin does your trainer go also ?
