Monday was a long day.Started at 7 am and didn't get done till 8:45 pm.Learned how to pump recovery oil in the tank then that goes back to the plant.Asphalt biz must really make the money. You deadhead as far as 300 miles to get the oil.Everybody is still nice except a dispatcher.I told him off today,my boss laughed.Reason she didn't say anything about me telling him off is because she was standing right there and seen the dispatcher started it.I suspect he will get a talken too if not done already.I was going to get a trk tomorrow then follow another driver but load has been cancelled so I still have my trainer.Which is fine by me.Hes an excellent trainer plus im not confident in my abilities.Im not intimated by climbing on the ladder to the top of the tank anymore.I just need to quit coming home looking like I took bath in asphalt, lol. But anyway that's about it so far.I will continue to update my performance till im fully comfortable with all the jobs.Again I welcome any and all advice.
First week on the job

No work today so you all are stuck with me,lol. Its raining.Once I learn more i'll be doing more jobs no matter what the weather brings.Like today a driver is going to the twin cities to pick up oil because his previous load got cancelled.I kind of figured there wouldn't be work today after getting there and seeing all the trks. After I hooked up got fuel and pretrip I get on the scale and customer calls and cancelled Oh well.
-
Do they pay you anything for going in to work? We get 4 hours minimum if we go to the yard.
-
Hi wsyrob.they call me and tell me no work.Like today because of rain.Tomorrow suppose to load but if the roads remain wet it'll be another day home.Im going to talk to Linda, shes my boss about receiving some kind of pay.Maybe I can file unemployment.
-
So you finally left Heyl Patty?
-
Ok. I thought you went down there. I wouldn't expect to be paid if they called me. If I go down there that is a different story. -
PJ, that stuff is hot and reacts violently with water because of the temp difference. It will flash the water and spatter......so no water nearby k? No rain and no open dome in rain.
Take care.....pattyj Thanks this. -
That's old news,I left them quite sometime ago.Did'nt even last 2 weeks with them.

I take it you haul asphalt. Now I know who to ask questions to.

Today I did go to work and getting ready to hit the scale and dispatch calls and said load just got cancelled.I'm surprised the customer didn't call earlier,it was a bit cool and roads were wet now its misting..That's what you have to ecspect in the construction biz, customer could call at any given time and cancel.I mentioned to dispatch about getting paid for coming down,he said ill get paid.So anyway I get there an hr early because I wanted to make sure everything was done right and I didn't forget anything..It didn't start out like I hoped it would bcause the trk was ABSOLTELY POSITIVELY DEPLORABLE!!!!!!!!!!! I never seen anything so bad in my life.Sunflower seed shells on the floor, dash,on both seatsside pouches in the company binder, and an open bottle of shells.Asphalt all over the place.Garbage every where.I had to throw things over just so I could get in.Linda was pissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She wants the trks clean and no smoking. She couldn't believe what she saw. It'll take the driver all day just to clean it and hes going to be doing it on his own time.I'm a new driver for this company and I should be issued a clean trk not someone elses trash.I was going to go solo today.A little nervous but I wasn't too bad after Linda told me what I would be doing with this load. Some of the loads theres awhole lot more to do.Glad this company is easy on me till I get the hang of it.
