I got an OTR job great miles and pay with an o/o. No complaints other than he wants me to run a lot. Pay with him is good, issues, no benefits and little home time. So I call jb hunt, I've been calling them for maybe 4 months now every now and then, they never got a dedicated for my zip, but today they did. I did all paper work and might go with them. I know these big companies are not the same than a good o/o / driver relationship, I will also see a pay cut, but I'll be home more ofte. Now my concern is that I read the bait part of these guys, offer a dedicated and then tell you OTR is the only available. Anyone here with first hand experience on these? I mean for OTR I'm good where I am no need for change. The dedicated is a Wal-Mart account if that matters.

Maybe you should ask the owner operator for more hometime before you quit. You are getting good miles now. Sometimes big companies don't come through with the miles or promises they make. Read some JB comments on here. Good luck.

I know about the comments, they basically suck. On the other hand the Wal-Mart DC is 30 or less miles from my house, so I could be home at least 1 day a week, just doing a "reset", my boss home time is good for otr, I do 40-50 days otr and go home a week, you don't get that with the big companies. The biggy is I pick loads and then delivery backhaul 30 miles from my house. I get .37 a mile and do no less than 3200 a week, jb hunt says average .41 2500 miles, so a 200 paycheck cut, but more family time. That's it, the only biggy is the stories I read about baiting people to OTR by offering dedicated and they saying is not available anymore, for another otr job I just stay where I am.

Stay where your at!!! Sounds like you got a good thing going! As your boss for a raise. Maybe .40 CPM and stay there until you can find something SOLID. Jb hunt isn't that, and you'll regret leaving your job now for JB

It like this, take the red pill, sign on with JB, get that DCS job and be home more often, or take the blue pill, listen to all those who HAVEN'T worked for JB and stay where your at live the life you already know. The choice is yours.

I recently watched a video from Craig Harper, CEO of J B Hunt, he said the culture of the driving industry is changing. The available driver pool is shrinking and companies cannot afford to do the ol' bait n switch like years ago. Look at Swift, they recently made moves to turn more of their revenue in towards driver retention (and their stock plummeted).

Oh, that video wasn't a recruiting or a promo video, it was meant to be seen by the employees, which I am.

People have accused me of being a recruiter or some office lackey, both of which I am not. I'm just an Intermodal driver on the Chicago West boards who happens to like his job and the benefits they offer.

    kutuzov Thanks this.
