About 20 years os so ago there were a lot of truckstops adding used oil to there fuel. I only had a problem with a plugged filter once in Texas, Aster that I always carried a clear container and would sample the fuel before I pumped it in to my tanks,, Best to buy from the large truckstops ..Once was told not fuel at small fuel stops right after they received a load of fuel..Dumping 8,000 gallons of fuel into underground storage tank would stir up water and crap at the bottom of the tank..

1 day after fueling at a local small truck stop I got water in my fuel. filled my davco up in 100 miles. called the co, they got back to me a day later & said they had their fuel tested & it had no water in it. I told them probably so cause I got it all in my tanks. no harm just a waste of 2 filters. co closed a year later. funny though bought fuel there for 5- 7 years never a problem. this was 4 years ago

At first they tried to play it off as if was my problem. But after explaining that the truck just drove 300 miles with no problem. Sat around the truck stop all day and got the word that a mechanic will be out tomorrow to fix it. They said a fuel company was supposed to fix the problem because they had gotten ccomplaints about it.
I still don't know if anyone is going to pay for my loss of a truck wages. -

I recall once not long after the Petro went in just west of El Paso they brought in some bootleg fuel out of Mexico, there were scattered up & down the interstate in both directions trucks that had died going down the interstate after fueling there. there was not a fuel filter to be found in El Paso. The problem was it was almost pure water & no fuel.
I mostly stopped at the mom & pop places, they were much more friendly & would call you by name, & go out of their way to give help when needed. -
Same thing happened some years ago (several complaints from drivers having water in their fuel) at the Mr. Fuel exit 104 I95 in VA.
