In my opinion (yes it too stinks) it is going to take far more than the trucking industry to make changes. The general public is who pays the price now. Yes fuel prices hurt us but with a decent surcharge who really pays? In the last few weeks I have watched trucks move slower and slower. Trucks that used to fly past me now creep along. Being in a company truck I still did 65 MPH and passed more O/O recently than in the past. There are little ways we can help increase our profits. It is up to us to shift todays equipment differently than yesterdays, design changes that arent driven differently really do effect our mileage. It is up to us to slow down.

As the lady said, the trucking industry is the only industry in this country that can almost bring our economy to a stand still. But who are we kidding....if we were still making money would we care how high fuel got? Todays driver is so much more self centered than yesterdays. Not many of the old timers (I know I'm a newbie too) left to help us rookies out. Todays driver has no sense of pride in what he does or who he is. And that being the case why should he care about the economy? How long have we been told 'one man cant make a difference'? So one truck can? One truck can worry about his/her own bottom line is all we can expect out of the society we have created.

Seriously, we have a devise that is called the clapper. Designed for lazy people to be able to supply electrical power to a device with a clap of their hands...as if flipping a switch was that freaking hard to do!!!! But thats not enough. Now we have a remote control for that clapper???? And we are dumb enough to buy it and think later. How many times is your remote control where you want it to be? The kids move it, the spouse moves it... So somewhere we got lazy and then advertisers started treating us stupid, and we bought it.

Fuel prices are an issue yes. But changes have to start in the American people believing in those old work ethics once again. Our industry is no different than any other. When youngsters come into it that were raised with a remote control clapper they are of course lazy and stupid....we told them they were every day on TV. What we see is a product of our own creation.

It starts with every business owner watching/controlling their own bottom line. Then helping out their neighbors in need. If we cant do that we will as a nation self destruct.

IF the drivers make it to DC, and stay long enough, driving around the capital, they can make a difference, a huge difference. remember this country can't run with out the truckers. this country can't live with out truckers, carrying everything to stores. so let the horns blow , and I wish each one God's speed. My dh is on the road, I know how tough it is out there for him, and how hard things are here with out him.
only the truckers, can bring this country to a halt, one one else can. but the truckers can. and are going to have to, get results, that will effect everyone in this country.
Tolls, fuel, taxes, these things are controlled by the gov. some say, not fuel, well it is, because it is one price in one state, and a different price in another, because of state taxes.
so let 'em roll and blow those horns. and keep them blowing, 24/7. My neighbor's that drive also in those convoys. Stay safe out there, and keep going.
I got a call earlier, that in IND. the police were told to pull over , for going one mile over the speed limit, so careful does it out there.

did you bother to look at the files I posted in the OOIDA forum about the battle between the then 10,000 member strong OOIDA and the leader of the Tennessee PUC who decided to use the power of the state to shake down truckers for political contributions? Very few people even bothered to look at them.

Being effective at ANYTHING is not near as valuable as being effective at recognizing a problem, devising a solution and then accomplishing that solution. This thread is a prime example of loud frustrated demands for a FIX without bothering to define the problem, discover what causes the problem, and then devise and put in execution a solution.. That by the way is the prime ability a business owner MUST HAVE to succeed..

You have to recognize and define your problems, and the devise and execute a solution for them...
once you have practiced that skill you can successfully operate your own business, failing to be good at this one task, a person is better to work for someone else who is good at that task.

I am a non trucke, and I just want to say i support any stricke you guys and gals can pull off. I am low income and a student and I run out of money every month now. I will have to go on food stamps asap and will be going to food banks. all these systems will be maxed out son and peope will probably get turned away.

I agree that the reasons for the laggging economy are many and complex, but letting the government know we want a solution is not so complex....strikes are one way of doing that, the other is voting them out of office...I personally have more faith in a strike at this point.

A strike that is less than total bringing on anarchy, food riots and armed insurrection will accomplish NOTHING. The force of the government cannot be used to reduce prices. That strike I cannot support and in fact will fight against until I am forced to fight the strikers themselves to defend my country from anarchy and riot! We have a Constitution that gives us right to protest and ways to remove corrupt leaders and replace them with honest men, the main problem seems to be finding honest men who will run for office.

Amen to that!!! We've worn hip waders for too darn long. But the honest guy isn't going to get into the snake pit, any more than you and I would. Its sad, because the corruptions all the way from the bottom to the top anymore. Makes me sick to think that I have to vote for the lesser of the evils. :biggrin_25510:
