Just to clarify, Garner trainers NEVER team. The trainer is ALWAYS in the jump seat while the trainee is driving. They get constant attention because training usually only lasts 3 weeks. Garner does not have any team runs either. I just wanted to make sure people don't get the wrong impression. :biggrin_25525:

We only did team driving once and that was to get home friday but garner gave us the ok to do it. All finished with training now and getting a tractor assigned to me monday. Dreading it honestly, dont feel like im ready to be doing it on my own yet. My trainer says I am so I hope he knows what he's talking about. Training went good overall, although most of the other drivers ive met have been rude as heck to me. Conversations would go good at first but once my trainer mentioned im a trainee we usually got a response of great another new guy to get in my way and they'd storm off. Not too sure what brought all that , id always pull out of their way if I was having problems with a dock. I did meet some really nice owner operators though who had been at it for years. They were happy to give me advice and tips on backing and other parts of the job. So all in all my only complaint with garner is I feel like im being rushed into a truck. Going to see when I go in monday for ending orientation what they say. The last thing I want to do is cause an accident. Plus if I screw up then its on my cdl. So yeah stuck between a rock and a hard place right now.

Attitude goes a long way. You seem to have the right one along with the right mindset. You'll be fine.

I've always been the honest type. I just come out right and say I'm new. That way if they belittle me i just make them feel stupid. Well those types usually are stupid so they #### near did my job for me.

Most drivers are nervous when they get their own truck. I have been driving since 1995 and I still get nervous! Nervous is why I do my pretrips, set my brakes and get out and look when backing, slow down and increase my following distance, call dispatch when I am not sure I can make it on time. Don't ever lose your nervous! Do you know who to call to get answers? Will you set your brakes and walk back there and look 10 times at the end of the day when you are blindsiding into the very last place to park at 3 in the morning? Always ask questions and be cautious for the next 20 years. You will be fine if you do the things your trainer taught you! Good luck and stay safe! You are right... it is your cdl and you are the only one who can protect it!

Well ive decided to go do what I originally wanted to do. Sadly I was somewhat forced to go to garner due to personal reasons im not going to get into here. They are a great company I just had my heart set on going with maverick. Ive regretted not going with them since I was first hired here. Going to be up front and honest with garner tomorrow and give them a two week notice and do what I should've done in the first place. I would definitely recommend garner though to anyone considering them. They have been fantastic to me throughout my training period but they are just not a good fit for me. I just feel this is the best decision for me and my family and thankfully now they support it.
