Question about ABF hiring process

Similar to any other LTL P/D job. Only thing we do different is U-packs with a step deck flatbed with a 3 wheeled forklift.
Jack of all trades master at none.

 

Only took a few weeks for me to get through the process. They are very thorough, but that's a good thing.

Hired in February and went through the school in Ft Smith. It's my first driving job. Union wages and great benefits. Compared to what i hear from drivers with other LTL companies, I'm glad I'm with ABF. I'm happy so far.

I had already gone to a local driving school and had my cdl, so for me it was pretty simple. The good thing is you get to do a lot more driving at Ft Smith than at a typical cdl school. They do put you up in a comfortable hotel, the same one used for corporate employees. The school lasts for 4 weeks.

 

alright good for you. My last bit of advice is this. You will be on a thirty day calendar probation and in those 30 days you are not to miss ONE DAY of work. No call-offs, No I'm sick, no nothing. Also whatever you do don't put a scratch or dent on the truck or your trailer. Take your time and relax. Get out of the truck and look at your surroundings before you start backing. Don't be afraid to ask the senior drivers questions. Any brother will gladly help you so you don't make a mistake. Those 30 days will go quickly then you will be in the union with the best pay going. Remember take your time....No need to break the land speed record.

 

Hey pt919. You got on with ABF and I notice you are in the Bay Area. My main career goal is to relocate back to the Bay Area and work for ABF since I am already a Teamster. You are in the sf Bay Area ? Please kick down some advice on how you landed a spot with ABF. I will have like 1 year experience once I knock on their door really hard. Everything from driving the yard truck, managing employees as a yard guy, pulling doubles , dry van and some tanker work. How did you do it. Please share your secret. I'm dying to get on with them in 6 months or so.

 

Also what's the starting hourly pay out of Bay Area terminals ?
