I'm not sure about this. In my company you can't get in the building without an ID or an appointment. When you ring the buzzer the security or receptionist will ask you what you want. If you tell them if you are looking for a job they will tell you to visit our website. If you ask if we have any openings for a driver they will tell you to check the website. If you ask for an application they will tell you to go visit our website. If you can't figure out how to search for jobs and fill out applications using the internet then you're not what we're looking for.

Sometimes we give out insider info of a job opening to friends and acquaintances because of our referral program but we send them to the website and fill out an application. HR gets first look on all applicants not site managers. If HR likes you then you get sent to the site manager. I believe this is pretty standard on all large companies.
