"Don Lacy, who heads up safety at Prime Inc., had this to say in an e-mail: If you are driving a company truck and don't average above 7 you wont be working here."

If you can't manage 7 MPG in a lightweight Cascadia, you really shouldn't be driving.
And yes, the fuel bonus does get up into that range. (Not sure of the exact numbers.) -
Had the same thing happen to me, I couldn't believe it.
-
so. slow down the trucks to save on fuel. but you give that savings to the driver as a bonus. either way company spends money.
-
I'm sure they'd rather give it to the driver than to the oil companies...

I was with Prime for 5 years. I had a truck set at 70 MPH, but rarely ran it above 60. Given that the majority of the freight at Prime had firm appointments, if I had driven faster I would have just sat and waited longer to unload. The upside to this was an increase in my fuel mileage from about 6.3 to 7.2, on a week where I drove 2500 miles that equaled a difference of about 50 gallons, putting $150 to $200 more in my settlement each week. The extra $10,000ish a year allowed me to take 2 straight weeks off in the summer and in the winter for vacations, in addition to the regular hometime I would schedule myself. After the end of my 3 year lease, I had averaged a little more than $75,000 net a year.
My last year at Prime, I averaged over $1.75 for all miles.CrazyPATrucker, skyviper73, albert l and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'm sure that will be the max. setting & the trucking companies can set it at any speed 65 or below.skyviper73 Thanks this.

If you weren't a company driver, I understand wanting to save in that situation.
I just don't understand why it is it's only Prime I always pass on the highway. -
guessing you've never pulled a flat or tanker???? and don't drive in the mountains.
only way i'm getting 7, is light load on kansas flatground. on summer blend fuel.
only pulled a van one time. i got 6.2 on winter blend.brsims Thanks this.
