When I was with my trainer, he told me there were a couple states that you HAD to cross the scales if you were under a hazmat load. REGARDLESS of what the prepass light said.
Is this true? Which states are they? How would I have known this without finding out the hard way since it is not on any kind of Hazmat test or anything....
Not sure if its true or not, but Id hate to get the green light, then get one big ticket 10 miles down the road when they send a chaser for me which would probably also include a very extensive inspection.
Hazmat must stop at scales?

Your PrePass guide will have those answers. Ohio comes to mind right off the top of my balding little head.

If you have an alliance for uniform hazmat permit, you only need to pull in to Arizona & Arkansas. Without that permit, you also need to pull into Ohio & West Virginia.

I thought it was Virginia not west Virginia

I know Arizona is one you have to stop at with hazmat even when you get the green light. But this does bring up another question. When pulling hazmat through Arizona and those two lighted signs before the scale say 'truck bypass weigh station' can you keep rolling or should you stop anyway?

Arkansas and Arizona are the ones for sure. Ohio and some others if hauling fuel without state permits. You should be able to get a PrePass pamphet from your company and at most state scalehouses if you happen to have to go inside anyway. Or online at PrePass.com

Also be sure to read signage approaching the scale. More then a few states will instruct ALL HM haulers to cross the scales (if open). And I assume they mean to "Cross The Scales", regardless what pre-pass and the initial weigh-in-motion director says.
