There have been many, many offers of insight and alternatives given in this and other threads, but they are cast aside by many who are intent on a stand of "if you aren't with us, you're against us". There are a great number of successful O/O's here; they obviously have a clue as well. What are they doing that is different? What are the one's hurting doing that is making them less successful? Provide more specifics (besides fuel is too high and must come down) and see what type of help is available.

Are you locked into a contract with a customer or lease carrier?
Are you running only local or regional?
Are you working solely with brokers (spot market)?
Is your business tied to a specific type of freight only?

Beating your head against the same wall only gives you a headache.

What about when they helped Chrysler and the savings and loans during the scandal many years ago?

Not hardly comparing "apples to apples" with that logic.
This is a "free market/capitalist" society. "It ain't the gov'ts job to fix anything! The more they are involved the worse it will be.

My questioned was directed to BigDiesel's comment. I was just asking what he thought of when the Government HAD done this in the past.

Nowhere did I CLAIM to want this.

NP...., but the same still applies, and I wasn't saying you wanted this. I am simply saying "it ain't the gov'ts job to fix" anything.
And in response to "the gov't doing this in the past" is precisely why some people want the gov't involved. The gov't wants to be involved to buy votes.

Just keep in mind, the gov't's business is not the "private sector". Any time they get involved "it will cost more" and you will receive less.

I know that. I don't need to be told that. My comment still remains to BigDiesel. Have a nice day.

I guess I could say that I want the government invovled to an extend. That extent being to tell the tree huggers to bugger off and let us drill our own rescources. One of my state's senators is pushing for drilling in Alaska, off the west coast, and in the Gulf of Mexico. But as far as the govt gettting involved any further than that, no way man!

I'm all for keeping the world in a clean working order, but there is a limit where it becomes counter-productive and just plain stupid.

Contrary to popular opinion, it has only been over the course of the last 30-50 years that Government has allowed "free market capitalism" to run rampant in the United States. Prior to the mid-1950's (with greatly accelerated de-regulation through the 1980's), the US Government regulated MOST industries and imports. In order to curb run-away price increases caused by supply shortages during and after WWII, the Office of Price Administration, backed by Congress, placed price controls on virtually every commodity used in America, with rationing where necessary.

It is going to be painful, but the only solution to our current problems will require a return of price controls and rationing, with extreme taxation at the highest levels of "income."

NO Not if I can stop it!! That is not a solution, that is National Socialism revisited. It didn't work to solve the problems of post world war 1 Germany, It didn't work when tried by the Chinese Communists, nor when tried by the Soviet Union. IT won't work here. Pohl Pot controled hyper inflation for almost 2 years by killing several million citizens and reducing demand... I don't like that idea either.
