Yeah I hear ya. The apu thing is stupid money and noise wise. There's nothing wrong with 65 mph but the o/o that run with the 4 Wheeler's that's just pissing away money.

No one "makes you buy a generator" - assume you mean an APU and "drive 55 mph to make money." Both are business decisions one can either agree with or not.

Idling runs you something north of 1.5 gallons per hour, while an APU is a third of that. The cost is paid off quickly. As ICs we're paid percentage of linehaul, FSC and accessorial, not grubbing for pennies per mile. Now I've done it both ways... going fast to squeeze in an extra load and slower to contain fuel costs. I make far more slowing down when I can than hoping I can grab that extra load and keep the costs down enough to make it worthwhile.

Its about keeping the dead presidents in your pocket, and not helping out poverty stricken oil tycoons move out of the ghetto.

Don't have to buy on of them either. Ya could just build a campfire in the sleeper when it gets cold!

Right....im just not up tight when it comes to money like that...if I have to burn extra fuel to sleep good or spend more time with my family then so be it...no amount of money can replace the smile on my wife and kids face when I open the door

I'd agree with that. I just spend less money staying warm than you. No one ever said we ALWAYS drive slow. There's just no point in driving with the pedal to the metal so you can sit your happy ### in a truck stop for a day, when going slower saves hundreds in fuel over the course of the year. Getting home? Different story.

All my loads have just enough time to pick up and deliver. Picked up yesterday at noon in Taylor MI, I gotta be in east point GA by 11am today. All my loads are like that, the only time I MIGHT get a load with extra time on it is on the weekends, even that's rare. Keeps me moving all the time, ain't got time to drive 55mph to put some penny's in the pocket. Prime is the slowest but so are 99% of these megas, they got the almighty dollar sign blocking there view. At some point driving so slow in dangerous, especially Texas and parts of the west were it's 80mph and you got trucks tryin to pass eachother goin 61mph

there is nothing worse than waking up hot and sweating when you took a shower right before going to sleep.
