OK I'm going to say this one time and then I'm done MY truck likes 1350-1400 rpm and in 9th gear thats 49 mph 10th gear is 65ish so I drive 65ish because that's what it likes science or not you do what you want but for me the rpm and speed is as listed. So no my thinking isn't wrong your's is in that one way is the only way.

Yes many seem to have the idea that driving at X rpm at X speed is the most efficient way to do it however they fail to account that not all trucks are spec'd to run at their max efficiency at the speed that "science" says is the optimal speed to drive at. One truck may be lugging at that speed and another may be running too high of RPMs. Gotta find that sweet spot for YOUR OWN truck and your personal driving style. I don't care what kind of MPG I get, you will never see me cruising at 49 MPH LOL. Not that I'm doing THAT much faster at 60, but please, 49MPH? Prime might actually have a chance to pass me.

That was my basis I was asked how I ( jar head ) got good mileage and had good net settlements . So I posted what I ( jar head ) do . the 1.6% is just a fact put out by major companies that 1.6 % number was not mine not did I state that .. Nor did I ever say drive in 9th gear . I don't drive in 9th . I drive in 10th between 57-61 depending on where I am .

My truck produces good at 1275 to 1300 rpm for me with 3.70 rears that's 57 to 58 . That's my best fuel speed . I should have put a disclosure ...

THIS IS WHAT I DO - DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME or IN YOUR TRUCK .

Evety truck is is different but the Science is still the same . Your truck may lug and tug and jump or sit still in the road and throw a tantrum but it's still the fact of science no matter in a CAR , TRUCK , BIG WHEEL , THREE WHEELER , or GOLF CART .. The amount of force is greater 60 than 55 . Your pushing mass ( wind ) the resistance is greater .

Now your truck may not preform well at those speeds or like it ... But it's proven fact .

Most trucks will lug at low RPM my my Detroit with 3.70 ratio and 10 speed don't and it works for me . That does not make it law , or the gospel or trucking 101 . But I was asked how I do it and I put it out there . It may or may not work for your truck but it does for me so I was merely sharing how I save fuel for a higher net .

I think he's referring me to me saying drop a hear and run at the same rpm. He said that would be 49 in his 10 speed cause he's drop to 9th.
