Chewey, if they do in fact put cameras facing the driving, it in itself will raise issues with different Federal and State privacy laws. Video recording a driver in a sleeper truck, where he/she may be undressing, can be defeated and become very embarrassing to Walmart in the media. There may be plenty of drivers who will challenge this. Now, recording of audio in the cab of the truck will be hit with an even bigger firestorm of Federal and State wiretapping laws. For this to effect me and challenge this in court, I need to return to active duty first. This is still being worked out between me, the EEOC, and Walmart's attorneys. One thing is for sure at this point and that is Walmart will be transferring a large sum of money for their actions against me. How ironic at a time the company is looking to record its drivers that the recording of phone conversations made between me and high level Walmart managers violating the law and my civil rights will be used against them. I will be more than happy to come after Walmart again over these driver facing cameras if given the chance.

As a side note to this. My wife and I own a large business that provides care to children and adults with special needs. We looked into video monitoring at one of our day habilitation sites to ensure proper care is given. As a member of the board of directors, I advised that video/audio monitoring has many legal pitfalls and will likely also create a more hostile work environment. Instead, an additional supervisor was hired to be the eyes and ears. Video/audio monitoring of drivers may be accepted by some/many, but I will not be one of them. Cameras facing the road, I have no problem with. I have already seen for my self that Walmart will break the law when they think no one is looking...... or listening! :)

we will learn more next week in the grass roots meetings, They are testing 3 styles right now 1st looks ahead only 2nd looks ahead and at the driver 3rd looks ahead and down the side of the truck. These are in place at the Sutherland dc right now.

Our gtm and safety guy are telling us if the cameras are installed it will be forward view only which I have no problem with at all. It could actually save your job...

Just for you Mr.Chewy lol :biggrin_25520:

Well thank god...I can rest easy now..grabber finally got that steam powered laptop back up:biggrin_25517:
Yeah thats what they told us. In addition, they are actually on constantly but record at a CER (8 minutes before and 8 minutes after) triggered event. As lawyers for the "other side" usually fight to keep these films out of court...we know why they want films of us:biggrin_2556:

NO IT'S NOT!! Put the KoolAid down. They may not put the driver facing camera in at first, because of driver feedback but they will be in the trucks sooner rather than later! That's a Fact! Just the mere mention of inward facing cameras on the message we recieved a couple weeks ago should tell you all you need to know.

Chewey, That is a great point you made about the senior managers coming from company's with high turnovers. It is an indication of what their treatment of the current drivers will be.

    Chewey Thanks this.

according to our Gtm who just got back from a regional meeting with all the other GTM'S and other management says any cameras installed will be forward facing only. which is fine by me I like the idea it may save your job one day.
