Rand Mcnally 710

I had 2 of the 720's and could never get the weather radar to work,even on my wifi at home.

 

PM sent Mark. More 710 gremlins.

 

#1 The usb Receiver on the board comes lose this is your charging problem !! If you open the unit when you buy a 710 & apoxy it down to the board this will help to get longer life out of the receiver plug !!
when it freezes up the reseat button will not unfreeze it what will unfreeze it is to put a micro switch n/c in line with the battery pos or neg either side when it freezes unplug it & kill the battery with micro switch reinstall the power cord & push the power switch to restart works 99.9% of the time back up instantly. Then do a diagnostic test & repair with RMDock asap!!! hope this helps some of you out if you need help on how to open up the 710 contact me I can walk you through the steps

 

If you lightly squeeze the USB end of the DC cord it will provide a more snug fit. Then wrap the excess around the bracket. Sometimes the DC end will slide out of the Truck connector, take a cable tie and put between the plug and the truck socket to help hold it in.

Unless you have a good DC power connection you will get freezes, screens blacking out, etc. These are all power related issues.

DO not open up the units if still in warranty. THIS will VOID any warranties.

Hey Mark,
is it possible to get the files to make a reload SD card for the 710?

I am trying to help a trucker friend and have several where wince fails to load, Fat32 drive is not accessible.

either see the wince progress bar then nothing, or the bootlogo and nothing.

tried the chat, never got to an operator, even though well before 6CST , get an "office is closed" message eventually (figure its probably unlikely theyll get them for me anyway.)

Ive repaired, sold, 1000's of GPS's of all flavors for some time, and I'm pretty sure I dont need handholding if I can make reload sd cards.

Not sure Im doing this right, but will attempt to post a question. I also have 2 of the 710's and both have the same problem. They worked about 4 or 5 moths and then went completely dark on me and no matter what I do they will not come back on.
I have seen a lot of people on different sites that mention this same problem. If the Rand is such a great gps why does this problem happen??
Im getting ready to buy another gps, (left my others at home this trip) and doing some research on which one I want. At this poing in time it will not be another Rand Mcnally

 

This is related to an power issue. Make sure your DC plug is plugged solidly into the DC connector.

Future ref - post in the support thread... this is an old thread that keeps popping up.

Update coming out to fix that issue.

 

I have used Rand for 5 years and their hardware is junk. Each new version is worst than the last one. I have owned four units over 5 years and will not buy anymore.

 

I think they need a class action lawsuit. They have way too many hardware failures.
