Hello, I am a new driver currently in training with Crete Carrier Corp. I've been out here for about a week and a half and I'm unsure what to do. Before deciding on Crete, I was dead set on going to TMC. I talked to my dad, who's a driver, and he told me flatbed was too much work and I should do something easier fory first trucking job. Heeding his advice in the end I decided to come to CCC. Since I've been here everything has gone well and all but I just can't shake this feeling that I should have gone to tmc. Every time I see their trucks around I think that I should have done that. I feel like I want the challenge of flatbed. Am I just being silly or should I actually considering switching companies? Is it a big taboo to leave during training?

Dude, the two jobs are both good starting points. Yes, it most certainly looks bad to future employers cutting out real quick. Give Crete 6 months and then do what you feel is right then.

For heaven sakes, get yourself a year or so where you are. Flatbedding will still be around when you've got a bit more driving experience. So you feel like that is the only worthwhile thing? Fine, nobody's gonna argue with you. But don't get into the "job hoping." You need to realize that time will pass quickly. And the older you get, the quicker it passes.

Get yourself some good experience with your current company, especially since things are going well. Yes, there are some good reasons to leave a training company while being trained, but believe me your "feeling that should have gone to tmc" is NOT one of them!

I pulled a van for a bit when I first started, got comfortable with truckin' in the big truck and then went flatbed. Your at CCC so you should be able to go over to Hunt Transport and try open deck with little effort I would think. Get some time in with pulling a van and then go for it I say.

flatbed CAN be a lot of work. depending on the company. don't know what tmc hauls though.

learn to drive first. don't be like them guys that get a paper permit and want to immediately pull tanks when they have no clue how to pull a van yet.

if you haven't learned to drive. you could end up in trouble pulling a flat. lots of guys can't keep their loads on their trailers.

Once you get a year behind the wheel at Crete go join a heavy haul company. Maybe moving stuff so big you need an escort will give you the challenge you are looking for.

I think you are finding out you do not want to drive a truck. Changing to a flat bed will not change that.
