Stay where you are for right now and get some experience. I have been trucking for 22 years and TMC has never not been hiring.

At least when I worked at Crete. Hunt was a complete different entity. Hunt required you to put a 2 week in a Crete. Turn your truck in and give the check out sheet from the shop in orientation and redo all the same training you did for Crete ir Shaffer then proceed forward with the flatbed/low boy training. So keep a good relation with everyone at Crete if ya want to head over to hunt.

Stay for 6mo to a year. Get the driving down first. There is a lot to learn when starting flatbedding. No need to be switching up at this point. If you can hang on a while you will be much better in the long run.

Says the guy who went straight in to OD/OS heavy haul right out of CDL school!.....lol. How's it going Calregon?

Guardian 91, you should have gone straight in to flatbed out of CDL school. Flatbed requires some effort, but it's not rocket science. Bail from Crete as soon as you get an orientation date from some good flatbed company.

TruckDuo and Guardian 91 Thank this.

Spend a year or more at Crete,,as mentioned above first get experience driving,,learning routing and dealing with scales . Driving a dry van you don't have to worry about things fallin of your truck,,just getting used to driving is enough to deal with your first year or two.
When you park at night walk around the truckstop and look at flatbed, step and RGN loads,,observe how the loads are secured and tarped,, speak with the drivers and ask about securement of open trailer loads,,

Take time ti get on the net and go to www.safersys.org look at carriers that you might be interested in the future,,look at their safety record and look at the type of violations they have.

I recently looked at TMC,,I was surprised at the large number of tie down and speeding vilotaions..

If you go to the FMCSA website you can find the Federal DOT load securement regs..
Just one loose or improper tie down out of 4 (25%) can get you a big ticket and an out of service,
Do you home work,,take your time, be safe , maintain a clean no violation CDL. When you make a change to flat, step and later maybe RGN you will be able to get hired by a good company. Think about what you are doing ,,work smart and LEARN .
Over the last 44 years I have done it all (almost) vans, reefers, flats, steps, tankers and multiaxle RGNs,
My last 15 years was RGNs by far the RGN work was the best,,a lot of work some times but a lot better experience and $$$$

    Be safe

    Big Don Thanks this.
