Can you give any specifics regarding the new L/O pay package?

The thing about minimum pay wage increases is that it simply increases everything else.

Sure, Swift just increased our pay, as did a lot of other companies.
But what does that get us in the long run?

It simply increases the costs of shipping everything, which increases the cost of buying those things.
And we are in the same boat all over again.

It is the same with the fast food workers.
They don't seem to realize that demanding a higher wage will only help them in the very short term.
The costs will filter down and they will be no better off.

Swift did the pay raise to try to keep new drivers. But with the other companies doing the same thing it won't help, because there is always that company that pays a couple cents more.

In a capitalistic society, no one that is not at the top of the food chain wins.
And the same holds true for socialistic and communistic societies.

There will always be those that control and have, compared to those that don't.
I doubt there is anyone in this forum that is one that is a have.

the sad thing is the guys at the top make millions, losing 100-200k a year is not something that effects them in reality. If the suits that do nothing would take a pay cut there would be plenty to go around for the real workers.

But this is why I love this country if you put the hard work in you can become one of the "suits" I came to this country in the mid 80's from the DDR if you don't know what that means its Deutsche Demokratische Republik or the former East Germany. Which if you was not apart of the elite class. Well it sucked was really no middle class just poor and the poorer. When my family arrived in the USA we had nothing my brother makes very high 6 figures and my sister makes mid 6 figures. Me I make well I am a truck driver so a make mid 5 figures lol. But there is no way I could do my brothers job the sacrifice and very hard work, no way in hell I would do it. Some are happy being middle class which is fine. I be one of them. There is nothing holding any one back from being the 1% just themselves.

Did that change? When I went to Academy last year, repayment was $75/week for 52 weeks, which is actually 12 months.

A driver who recently went through mentoring told me that they had bumped it up to like $8.50/$9.50.

As for why they dropped the flat $450/week... From what my mentor had told me, it was to motivate lazy students to get behind the wheel. She had a student that would drive 3-4 hours a day, at most, and then she would have to drive a full day (while the student would watch movies in the sleeper) to keep from getting behind schedule. Now, if they don't drive, they don't get paid. The money averages out the same for most students.

The minimum wage differs from state to state, so your training pay will be based on your home state. I do seem to recall that they changed to the minimum wage+ scenario exactly for the reason that some trainees would milk the flat weekly rate by driving very little.

I've been running the o/o pay package for a month now ... do we want to do it in this thread or start a new one?

I think it would be good to have one discussion thread for all divisions of Swift's pay package, but I can also see having a separate thread for O/O's.
